Interesting. Tigers really needed a left handed bat, but I suppose Sheffield is a pretty darn good hitter, even if he is 38 years old. They gave up quite a bit, but then again, none of the 3 look like sure things.

Sheffield tends to burn his bridges wherever he goes, but playing for Leyland may be an exception. I guess it was before.

And now the Yankees have dumped Jaret Wright. Can't help but wonder who their big off season pickup is gonna be.

I dunno. If Russ Ortiz hangs around-- the 3 of them could set some sort of record.

"Fans like homeruns and we are putting together a pitching staff to make our fans happy" Bruce Chen is a human victory cigar. Unlike Shavlik Randolph, however, his presence in the game means that the other team is guaranteed to win.

The Bret Boone of pitchers? Bret Boone actually got to play before the game was decided--though usually after he was done wrecking havok on the Twins was right around the time Bruce Chen would be useful. "Game's Over--bring in Chen so we can outperform our Pythag record"

i'm having a hard time accepting the fact that any GM would want Jaret Wright, even at 3 million per. he's terrible.
Cashman's done a pretty good job adding young arms. i like humberto sanchez a lot, the tigers considered trading bonderman and promoting him, so hopefully he is not too far away from being ready to pitch in the majors.

The type of GM who wants Jaret Wright is also the type of GM who thinks Kevin Millar will provide protection for Miguel Tejada in the lineup and thinks that Russ Ortiz will be a solid mid-season pickup. Logic does not apply here.

Everything Borat said and more--guessing Mazzone thinks he can work with Wright--but that success was in NL and I just don't think Wright is worth the time at this point--but who knows? I never thought the NL would win the World Series this year either, but still glad as heck to have Wright gone. Sanchez has a chance to be an elite 1/2 starter and with he/Phil Hughes, it's exciting to have some prospects that can pitch--well hopefully as you never know how they'll translate to Major League level but it's better to have guys with plus arms then trying to promote Darrell May for a spot start as we saw 2 years ago, or counting on fact Carl Pavano will not avoid a bruised ear lobe and be out an entire year.
