Yeah. Happy to see. BC had plenty of chances but the turnovers just killed them. Good.

Congrats to Wake - a team that plays off-campus for both football and basketball.

On the "Eagle Action" Board, it is equal parts "Fire the Coach" and "The Refs Stole the Game". As for the latter, well, welcome to Tobacco Road, Boys. ;D AP Summary: Boo Hoo

Congrats to Wake - a team that plays off-campus for both football and basketball. Wasn't this discussed before? "Off campus" is actually less than a mile down the road from the WFU campus border, and on land owned by the school, according to web links on the project. But I give credit to the Deacs: Groves is clearly the weakest of the ACC stadia, but they have invested in it to make it work. Georgetown would do well to follow suit for its needs.

These maps should clear up any confusion with respect to the on/off campus issue: www.wfu.edu/visitors/maps/campusmap.jpgwww.wfu.edu/visitors/areamap.htmlNeither Joel nor Groves appears on the official campus map, which is the extent of my point here. They play their revenue sports off-campus, and students at Wake drive to the games. Weblinks re: Groves also indicate that it is located "1 mile" from campus. Mapquest puts it at 2.2 miles. By definition, that is off-campus, not close enough to count as on-campus. Wake does not own the land on which Joel stands and rents it from the city, to my knowledge. Mapquest puts the distance to the Joel from campus at 2.8 miles. By comparison, the distance between the front gates and MCI is 3.2 miles, per Mapquest. Would we call a GU arena in Rosslyn on-campus? I know I wouldn't.

Yeah, Joel is a city venue - named for Lawrence Joel who received the medal of honor for actions on Nov. 8, 1965 in Vietnam.
Read his medal citation sometime or you can see the details in the beginning of the 8th of November video by Big & Rich.

I figured the coliseum was city owned, and it's all rather confusing that you can go to three web sites and get three different citations about it all. Yes, it is off campus, and yes, they make it work--of course, Wake enjoys a better landlord-tenant relationship than Georgetown does.
Wake Forest is roughly half the size of Georgetown and atheltically is able to do a lot more than Georgetown despite its size. To that, they deserve the credit.

Wake Forest also plays in a league that gets far more money in all sports to it's respective teams and while that isn't enough to get things done for new facilities--it certainly doesn't hurt. The ACC brings in enough money in Basketball alone that their football programs don't have to be dominant and let's face it, it's not that way in Big East or BC, Miami, VTech wouldn't have left. It's a huge advantage for their league in terms of revenue that sports bring in and while it's not a primary factor, it doesn't hurt Wake at all.

Wake Forest has a pretty huge campus despite their size and while it is technically miles off campus, the arena is for all intents and purposes across the street. The front gates and bball stadium are at opposite sides of the campus. The situation is akin to having an arena in Northern Burlieth--technically not campus, but not exactly distant.

Plus pretty much everyone at Wake drives, because Winston is essentially the world's largest collection of highways and strip centers.
