recently the hoyas have had to come out of a hole to win. the reason for this hole? the hoyas dont start the game with the personnel that is called upon to close it...yesterday owens and reed got in on the action. when ramell gets back that is another body that can help the small ball theme.
at this point in time i think roy deserves playing time during certain situations...matchups here and there to perhaps change the tempo of the game...
so what is the consensus of the board? does putting roy on the bench to start the game destroy his confidence?

At this point, I would say not to mess with what is working. By having Roy in the game at the start and then bringing Owens in later, it feels like starting a pitcher with a change-up and then bringing in a closer with a nasty fastball. We force the other team to play against 2 very different lineups.
If we start with Big Roy in, and it proves to be successful then we can stick with it during the game. If it is unsuccessful, we can still bring a starting-caliber player off the bench for an added spark and a different look.

yeah i have gone back and forth on this one...i think the x factor in this is reed. if reed can consistently provide the spark he provided yesterday, then starting owens might not be so bad...but until yesterday, owens was our only heavy hitter off the bench...so if owens were to start we wouldnt have a spark to bring off the bench..which is something all teams need

KG, how did Hibbert look in his limited minutes yesterday - any improvement? at least he scored a bit.

I agree: we are winning w/Roy starting. He may not be doing much himself, but the line up changes so dramatically when he leaves .... maybe that is helping us.

While it would be nice to get a good start (which we seemed to be doing early on), I am happy with the current results, even though it means risking heart attacks during the game.

we need Roy to start so that he can get the jump ball at the beginning of the game...oh, wait he doesnt even take the jump, Jeff Green does. Nothing bad on Roy, I just think it's funny that our 7'2 center doesnt take the jump...anyone have a few extra SkyFlex strength shoes sitting around?

A good point was made I feel regarding being able to pull Roy out if it isn't working out. Owens is always ready to come in.
It just would be nice to start a game and continue through with a momentum that would remain consistant throughout the game.
Yes whatever works...and about 30 pounds and some hand/footwork on Roy would work wonders.
Go Hoyas...squeeze the cuse

The old cliche "that it doesn't matter who starts but who finishes" is appropriate. However, I think the real reason JT3 starts Roy is that he provides early protection for Jeff. In a couple of the early games when Roy did not start and Jeff was in he middle, Jeff picked up some early fouls and had to spend much of the first half on the bench. I don't think that has happened since Big Roy has been starting.
