This has all been unfolding 20 blocks from my office here in NYC. I've never seen/heard as many emergency vehicles...definitely shook some people here as well.
If it is indeed confirmed that Cory Lidle has died, it is a sad day for the Yankees organization, MLB and all of sports. Equally tragic are the innocent victims who are allegedly dead in the apartment complex - at least 2.

Has it been confirmed Lidle was killed yet?
Heard about a crash then just got off work and saw Lidle was aboard.

The only word one can think of is this instance is tragic. Makes the whole Steinbrenner-Torre saga during the past few days seem extremely trivial (if it wasn't already to begin with). I'm just in shock right now like everyone else.

What a tragedy....definatly puts everyone thing else into perspective. It's always terrible when you hear about someone being involved in an accident like this one, but being able to put a face to the person really impacts you.

What a unbelievable story. i was following it at work and learned of the crash. I drive home and find out that it's Cory Lidle's plane. It's being reported that 3 others have been killed as well.

Now being reported just Lidle and his flight instructor passed, no residents of the condo.
Horrible story as he leaves behind a widow and young son. Ashes to ashes, dust to dust.

My deepest condolences to the families...
From yahoo: Lidle told the Times in an interview last month that Yankees fans should not worry he would suffer the same fate, insisting his plane was safe. "The whole plane has a parachute on it," Lidle said. "Ninety-nine percent of pilots that go up never have engine failure, and the 1 percent that do usually land it. But if you're up in the air and something goes wrong, you pull that parachute, and the whole plane goes down slowly."
Just makes it harder to believe this...

I was all ready to go on a silly rant about how people don't understand what tragedy means and how silly it is to talk about "putting things into perspective," but this blog does it much better and with some humor, too. www.progressiveboink.com/dugout/
