While I lick my wounds over the White Sox demise (everything broke right last year; I knew it couldn't happen again), I have to give major props to the Twins (despite today's loss). How they could play well enough to win the division despite losing Soriano, losing Radke for an extended period, and losing their entire starting outfield for an extended period is beyond me. Starting pitchers named Bonser, Baker and Garza? And Carlos Silva, who struggled all year to get his ERA below 6? No way. I know a number of their regulars had career years, but any way you slice it, and even though the Tigers gagged at the end, this is still a major accomplishment.
And while I'm at it, I also have to say how pleased I am that The Big Hurt rebounded so strongly this year (although I didn't much like it when the Sox were in Oakland). Being a Sox fan who does not reside in Chicago, I may carry a different perspective than local Sox fans, but to me, Thomas is the best hitter in the history of the franchise, and I'm delighted to see him still wreaking havoc, even though with another team. At least he isn't with the Yankees.
