Does Kornheiser know anything about sports? He's just awful and it's obvious he doesn't know a thing about football but I question whether he knows anything in sports--not just FB. Tirico is George Costanza--and love when he does his "announcer" voice during events. When he's behind the mic, games have "Small time" feel as if you are watching a JV event. Theisman is best of trio and he's annoying, but will make some good analysis when not getting caught up in the forced banter. 2 sideline reporters is only more worthless then having one. Last week ESPN made a terrible mistake--they actually let people who know what they are doing announce the Charger/Raider game and that team was CLEARLY superior to the "chosen" trio which is bland, bad, and what you expect in cameos for "Playmakers"--not a real game. Throw in fact they force "Celebrities" in telecast it's just another reason to hate ESPN. Last week Jamie Foxx made me want to build a time machine, go on the set of "Any Given Sunday" and knock the snot out of him to point he can't speak. Of course he was allowed to ruin an entire quarter and wasn't funny at all. He has turned into typical actor who does a biographical role and believes they are the person (Ray Charles in his case) and he's someone who is beyond annoying. Type of Robin Williams doing Southern Preacher voice annoying or HiFi starting a thread over here annoying. Tonight it was Dwayne Wade--who I saw during Miami-FSU game and am convinced he is a robot creation of ESPN/ABC and really named "Boo-Ya 2D2". Stick to the hoops Wade and stay off the air. Either give the football fan the Nessler/Vermeil/Jaworski trio or give up rights to NFL Network. Nessler is a pro. Vermeil is one candid/fine announcer--ten times better in this medium then as a coach--which he was solid, and Jaws is one of the most well informed people in media--he does his homework and knows his stuff. Save MNF--fire the inept morons and go to the "backup guys". Or just drop it altogether. I can't take another game of these idiots and forced celeb drop ins as if games can't keep people's attention. This is NOT Howard Cosell having John Lennon drop in the booth back in the day--it's Jamie Friggin Foxx and Mike Tirico talking about "upcoming roles". YUCK!!!!

But what do you really think, RDF?
;D
By the way, I agree with you that this MNF announcing crew is pretty bland overall. As an aside, who dressed Michael Irvin tonight? The knot in his tie was wider than most men's necks. Welcome back to 1960.

The knot in his tie was wider than most men's necks. Welcome back to 1960. I'm a Cane fan and I can't stand Irvin's yelling for no reason. I loved the guy as a player--passion/heart/effort but the announcing version is just too much--and that outfit was beyond bad. Next to Steve Young's hair weave and those windbags TJ an Berman--man I can't stand ESPN!!! Kornhole needs to go back to being Wilbon's punching bag and you used a great term to sum him/others up "bland". And off topic a bit, but have you ever seen a network self promote their on air "talent" more then ESPN?? I mean "Stump the Schwab" is ridiculous. I think we all have him stumped--we aren't grown men who wear jerseys everyday and actually have seen what a woman looks like naked--that isn't our immediate family. Life has stumped this guy--so no need to bother. Stu Scott and Scott Van Pelt make me wish you could abort announcers, Steve Bunin talks like Jim Ross after the stroke, and it just goes on an on. Anyway to combine ESPN with MTV and end up with Laguna Night Football or The Challenge--ESPN and MTV attempt to program their nights around the events that made their networks-sports and music. If I want to see a clerk from 7-11, I don't need to see it on a channel that is dedicated to music-supposedly. As for ESPN--poker is NOT a sport--it's a game. It takes no special effort to play this, and it's always on--Arliss is NOT a sport--it's bad show. Just have to vent now while my niece is keeping up by refusing to sleep--gotta love 8 month olds,

"Boo-Ya 2D2" Wow. Just... wow. It took me 10 minutes to stop laughing at that before I could type this. The B-Squad is FAR superior to the A-Team, but unfortunately ESPN doesn't give a rats patoot. Its become clear to me (and others, I'm sure) that the NFL is in the business of catering to the marginal/casual fan, which is why seemingly EVERY personality associated with the NFL has the appeal of sandpaper on my undercarriage. To wit: Sailsbury, Sean; Clayton, John; Irvin, Michael; Theisman, Joe; Tirico, Mike; Keiper, Mel; Hodge, Merril; Mortensen, Chris; Berman, "You're coming with me, leather" Chris; and so forth. Will somebody not named Ron Jaworski at least TRY an offer some insight into the game? Analysis of what is going on that us fans aren't picking up on?

I think Kornheiser is still trying to find his role. I keep waiting for him to put a hot paperclip into Theeeeesman's eye. Speaking of undercarriage, it is hard for me to understand what thieessssman is saying every week b/c he has the undercarriage of that week's marquee qb in his mouth for the entire game!
Kornheiser has admitted repeatedly that he knows very little about the details of football. He isn't a color guy, rdf. That is what the golden boy from ND is there for. I just wish he would do what he did to get there...slam everything and everybody. Nice Mr. Tony is a boring Mr. Tony.

I just wish he would do what he did to get there...slam everything and everybody. Nice Mr. Tony is a boring Mr. Tony. Appreciate the feedback because you guys in DC know his work and get his radio show--so maybe he's really interesting and would be good if he weren't ESPN-ized and that is forcing things or not being candid. They tell you to be a certain way and when it's not natural, it's silly and transparent. If you want to up your viewership, get an announcer in the booth who states facts, talks about the game, and has no problem criticizing people for particular play/game. For instance, when Brett Favre throws another INT, have the announcer say: "That was a terrible throw and one of the reasons Favre is one of the more overrated QB's ever--the guy doesn't set his feet, takes terrible risks, and was QB of one Super Bowl team that MVP was a Kick Returner and 1st Round Bust against a team whose Head Coach was busy negotiating a deal to flee the team he led to Super Bowl". That might get viewers attention--because it would stir up debate and look at what is/has happened--not what is created. Instead you get "Favre is such a warrior/competitor, he's just trying to make a play". Yeah--and so is Aaron Brooks, when he does his "magic". With Peyton Manning it's always about "he's such a student of the game and so well prepared"--well why does he suck in Postseason? Why does he lose big games? Tell the truth and more people will watch because like/hate the words, they make you have an opinion and take interest.

Is it only me who believes that somebody had a hell of a sense of humor in putting TK in the booth with Joe Theeesman (aka Mr. Cathy Lee Crosby). I seem to recall TK having a great time at Theeeesman's expense back in the day about being Mr. Cathy Lee.

As far as people being called out on things, RDF, TK has done a pretty good job of doing that with regards to that moron on the other side of Tirico (who is a moron in his own right).
During the preseason game they did covering the 'Skins, Theisman went on and on about how Randal-El was a great college QB but that the only good college QB's who make it in the NFL are smaller, quicker, etc. He literally went on for about 3 minutes - on the air, mind you.
WHen he finally finished, there was a pregnant pause before TK asks "What about that guy in Jacksonville? What's his name?" Tirico added, "Matt Jones." To which TK replied, "Yeah, him. He's a big guy. Wasn't he a college quarterback?" Followed by another long, silent pause which caused Tirico to jump in and change the topic. I'm not doing the situation justice, but it was hilarious.
I'm with VE on TK. He's not there to be an expert, he's just there to give common sense opinions and question NFL cliches... which I think he's done a decent job of in two regular season games and the one preseason game I saw. Him with Vermeil, Jaws and Nessler would be PERFECT, in my opinion.

Nessler, Vermeil and Jaws were fantastic, even with a crappy game. Phenomenal. It's amazing to me ESPN constantly devises ways to keep Jaws off the air.

Yeah, its pretty bad.
First, Mike Tirico. He is beyond horrible as a commentator. Can't stand him. Yet, ESPN/ABC loves putting him in big events. Dry, boring, and explains everything to the point where its annoying.
Just for an example. Tirico could be doing a college game with a color analyst on ESPN. And the color analyst would be talking about the Bowden Bowl game.
Color analyst: Man that FSU-Clemson game. what an ending. Yeah, I'm pretty sure Tommy feels good winning against his ole' man, Bobby Bowden. I'm pretty sure that would make for interesting conversation at the Thanksgiving table..
Tirico: Of course, we are referring to the game in which Clemson defeated FSU, which stands for Florida State University. Bobby Bowden, who is the head coach at FSU , is also the father of Tommy Bowden, who is the head coach at Clemson.
Its like, we already know this, its been explained already. Yet Tirico does it everytime during a game. Its annoying.
Tony is a good, writer. But he has gone hollywood. I think PTI gassed his head up. And Tony is known for speaking his mind. On his radio show for ESPN, he was "suspended" for a short period because of comments he made that the network did not like. It was nothing controversial, but it was Tony speaking his mind and ESPN didn't like it. And I think that is what you are seeing in the booth right now. Tony seems almost scared in the booth. Intimidated. And that has never been his style at all. I just think its a bad move.
Thiesmann. We all know his deal. He is a know it all and motor mouth. But you can deal with him. He isn't annoying. They all tease him about it, and its kind of funny.
I always like McGuire, Patrick, and Thiesmann as a 3-man crew.
But as was said before, I also liked the Vermiel, Nessler, and jaws crew too. They would be just fine.
I didn't even watch the game on Monday night. Thats how bad I hate this new 3-man crew for MNF.

I was shocked how Kornheiser made a comment when Matt Jones made a reception that I think was short of the first down how while that didn't help the Jaguars, it helped his fantasy team because Matt was one of WR. Completely unprofessional in my opinion.

Completely unprofessional in my opinion. That's his schtick, for better or for worse. I don't think he's ever thought about fantasy football until this year. The closest he got was ESPN Heads fantasy draft on his radio show a few years back. Of course, in making such comments, he's best relating to the average fan since so many people are in to fantasy football these days.

I really enjoy that they get the graphics wrong at least a half dozen times a game - very professional. I'm willing to give the team in the booth some time to gel or to kick out everyone but Mr. Tony. I was talking this over with a classmate today - ESPN should steal the Premiership model and just have two big fans of either team call the game and rag on each other through out - that would be entertaining TV.

while we are bashing espn...can somebody explain to me why they use espn graphics for the college games on abc? The corporate honchos at ABC/Disney think ESPN is the premier sports media brand out there. So all CFB games on ABC are now styled "ESPN College Football on ABC." FWIW I think it's pretty dumb, too.
