Geez. After seeing Bobby Bowden and Michael Irwin discuss how FSU couldn't pay him enough to get Cocaine boy to FSU and seeing Edge drunk off his ass talking about how many bets he was winning tonight, all I can say is good riddance to that dirty ass school Miami. I realize that college basketball isn't the best example to follow either but the brazen flaunting of the rules by these guys is really too much to stomach. Especially on a day when I caught Deke on the Regis show (no i don't really actually watch that show) talking about his new hospital. I am glad we have ambassadors like Dikembe and not the constant filth that flows from those Hurricanes down south.
I am so glad that Miami is out of our conference and count me as one who is glad to see us stay above the fray that is major college football. the great tailgating aside, there is very little of redeeming value in this sport to an academic institution.

I nominate the above for worst post of the year.
Does college basketball have no "redeeming value to an academic institution" because Chris Webber took some money, or because Tark ran a dirty program, or because Jim Harrick Jr. gave players automatic passing grades, or because Allen Iverson was in prison once or because Kenny Brunner poked a man with a samauri sword?"
You also seem to imply there is value in "minor college football," since GU plays at the I-AA level and you only cite "major college football" as a social menace. If that is the case, why shouldn't GU drop football, or even all sports, down to D-III? We could achieve the same "redeeming values" while significantly slicing our athletic budget.
No, I think there's a reason, other than money, that schools, and particularly small schools like those in the MAC, CUSA, and Sun Belt Conferences, play Division I-A football. And it has to do with the education of the entire human being. Of course, I wouldn't expect a Mass-hole to understand that. Go find a hockey rink, and stop jabbering about a sport you've probably never played, don't care to know, and don't care to understand.

I dont' think Edge was the only one who was drinking tonight, this post had a certain "swagger" about it--and I don't mean confidence. ;D

Seriously? Then why didn't you go to one of those big state schools so you could get your football on? Listen I love football. And if you check my post I certainly made a disclaimer that B-ball was no example. It has its problems. So is your problem that I insulted Miami or that I insulted football? Football has its place and obviously it can be done in a proper fashion. I am hardly advocating abolishing the sport of football, Austin. What is bothersome, and may be difficult for you to understand living in a state where football is everything and those who play, even in high school, are considered gods, is that no one is even concerned about maintaining an air of propriety. And oh yeah, I do think Miami is trash. And no I don't care that Edge was trashed but I suppose he could have shown a little restraint in discussing his gambling habits but such qualities are rarely displayed by Miami alumuni (I can't call them graduates) Sean Taylor aside. Oh and I think hockey now sucks. By the way where did you play your football, Austin, and what do you envision Georgetown would be like with a high Div I football program?

Oh and I nominate your response for "worst response of the year" since you clearly didn't actually read what you were responding to.

As someone looking at it from a different perspective, I can appreciate your disdain for Miami. They played by their own set of rules for many years. Ironically though, it was aboat that same time that Booby Bowden decided the truth in the adage "if you can't beat 'em ... join 'em" and they have inheritied the title of Chief Rulebreakers of the Gridiron. Just one small illustration ... anyone notice the late hits by the Noles? Now I know that they have instigated a policy which many think protects the quarterback a bit too much. Some even joke that "they (players) aren't wearing dresses." That being said, FSU takes to pushing the envelope at every opportunity. Mickey Andrews, their DC, is the one who made the comment years back about playing to the echo of the whistle. FSU was flagged for 3 late hits in about a twenty minute span. Worse, they could have been flagged another couple of times. One time they certainly would have drawn the flag except that the late hit happened to a fellow FSU player when the Nole's late spear attempt arrived a bit high.
Still, don't hate the game. Love the game ... hate the reprobates.
