I'm not sure if I have ever seen anything like this: Varitek - Nixon - Wakefield - Clement - Gonzalez all DL'd. Ortiz' heart situation. Ramirez' knee tendonitis. Lester diagnosed with lymphoma (treatable successfully, God willing). Papelbon throws a pitch in the 9th tonight and leaves the game clutching his shoulder, during his post-game news conference Francona says Papelbon felt a burning sensation delivering the pitch. Also post-game, a pale Francona (whose ulcer must be ready to perforate) also slips in that Schilling pulled a lat muscle warming up in Oakland a few days ago and will miss a start. At this point, the Sox have 3 starters (Crisp - Lowell - Youkilis) and one healthy pitcher (Beckett) from their original starting rotation left. A plague of locusts would be simpler.

Of course, some perspective is quickly applied in the Sons of Sam Horn Red Sox discussion forum:

I went to the As Sox games this week. I saw two starters play in their natural positions on Tues (Lowell and Crisp) and one on Wed (Lowell). Miserable week. However, I did sit next to Theo. Great guy. Very funny. Good sense of humor despite the situation.

Theo better have a good sense of humor because everything him and Co. have done since the WS win has been atrocious.

Who, exactly, did the Red Sox make that deal with to win the WS?
His name wouldn't have been "Louis Cyphre" by any chance, now, would it?
I'd be looking for a bloody Denise Huxtable somewhere in the clubhouse. . .or behind the Green Monster. Maybe that's what Manny was doing back there.
