www.nypost.com/sports/espn_fires_reynolds_sports_andrew_marchand.htmI imagine that it takes a lot to get fired from Baseball Tonight - but I could be wrong about that. Should be interesting to see why they let him go. Perhaps they were downsizing to make room for the ever-expanding John Kruck behind the desk, maybe he refused to plug ESPN Mobile.

Major-blow for Baseball Tonite...i've always thought that the team of Ravech, Reynolds, Kruk, and Gammons was by far the best of any ESPN show (along with the PTI guys). With Gammons out indefinatley and now Reynolds gone, the quality of the show is sure to drop off. Steve Phillips doesnt have anywhere near the credibility of Peter Gammons. They would be much better off with Tim Kurkjian in that role. And who do u put in for Reynolds? Orel herscheiser lacks any personality, Tino is awful, and Jeff Brantley doesnt have the same chemistry with Kruk that Harold did. I wonder what led to the firing, but it definatley is a blow to the show.

Yeah, I just saw that too and came back to post it here to find out I was scooped by St. Pete.

BBTN for me is very close to becoming "one of the ESPN shows I used to watch." Ravech is a good host, but with Kruk and Phillips as his primary backup, the show is terrible. Could Buck Showalter arrange to get fired this season?

They are now saying it might have been related to Baseball Tonites coverage of the whole A-rod situation..that seems like a pretty ridiculous reason to fire the man, but then again it is ESPN.

Who are "They?" No one gets fired for arguing on the air - it makes for good TV. Remember, Michael Irvin did crack and lied about it and he is still there.
Edit: I realize now "they" are deadspin.com. Still, I have a hard time believing that an organization of ESPN's caliber would fire such a high profile employee as Harold Reynolds without having a PR strategy. Something happened.

This is entirely a rumor, so don't take it as gospel, but my cousin said a friend of his who works for ESPN says that Bonnie Bernstein was the one who filed the complaint against Harold Reynolds, and supposedly it's not the first time it's happened. This could be entirely be false, but it's far more believable than a heated argument about coverage of A-Rod being the reason for his departure.

Bernstein? I doubt it was Bernstein. I have heard that she has made her way through several locker rooms in the NFL.

Yeah, well my best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who saw Ferris pass out at 31 Flavors last night. I guess it's pretty serious.
Point is, neither HR or ESPN are going to give a full explanation, and everyone's inside sources seem to be contradictory. For what it's worth, Reynolds has historically been a pretty steadfast religious person and was an upstanding (morally, sportsmanlike, whatever) player and broadcaster. Is it possible that that's all a front? Bakker and Swaggart would say so, but as of yet, I'm not ready to condemn him for wild speculation. And given the state of ESPN, I wouldn't be surprised if he was fired for not going along with the pile on A-Rod bandwagon. But that's neither here nor there, and wild speculation is all we really have to go on. Unfortunately, that will be enough for most people.
Given the track record of some ESPN personalities (Tirico et al.), though, I have a hard time believing that an isolated incident would lead to Reynolds being fired. But maybe this will give him more free time to cruise bars with Chris Berman and pick up chicks..."You're with me, leather."

taking a PA out to dinner and hugging her inappropriately is the reported reason thebiglead.com/?p=714baseball tonight is pretty terrible. any show that employ john kruk and steve phillips for their insight is struggling. fire joe morgan had a nice collection of harold idiocy today. check it out. firejoemorgan.blogspot.com

best purchase of the summer: YWML T-Shirt. Everyone should do themselves a favor and scoop one up.
Also, did it cross anyone's mind that HR told some girl to "Hug it out, b*tch!" at that Outback?
The funny thing is that the guy actually thinks that if he sits down and talks with the accuser he can get his job back. -Riigghtt!

I heard that he got fired for a lap dance. Reportedly he was seen during a commercial break giving John Kruk one.

That's interesting. I understand that John Kruk has the equivalent of three laps.

Agree with all the sentiment about BTN. Kruk and Phillips are just godawful. This is just the latest in a long line of ESPN shows to go the way of the crapper (NFL Gameday, Primetime, NBA coverage, SportsCenter... and don't get me started on poker or darts or dominoes). Although the "B" team of Olney, Hershiser and former Buffalo Bison Orestes Destrade ain't too shabby.

Actually I enjoy the poker shows for the most part, but I certainly understand most people finding them boring. But there are far worse out there now. You mentioned the dominoes but I think the worst shows on ESPN I have ever seen were the Professional Scrabble Championships and Worlds Strongest Woman. Fortunately I have only caught that one once. I was in a restaurant and wasn't really paying attention. Through my peripheral vision I am sure I caught a glimpse or two of what I presumed to be World's Strongest Man. At some point however, I glanced up and sure enough ... it was World's Strongest Woman. YUCK!

Paintball is def the worst on tv nowadays.
You can't see anybody actually get shot, it's just the camera switching from person to person as those tagged walk off the course. Boooriiinnngggg.
