The Indiana Pacers have come to terms with second year point guard Orien Greene, whom they claimed off waivers from the Boston Celtics. The writing was on the wall for Greene to be cut when the Celtics acquired point guards Sebastian Telfair and Rajon Rondo in draft-day trades. Greene played for the Florida Gators for his first two years before transferring to Louisiana-Lafeyette . He was drafted last year by the Celtics and averaged 3.2 points and 1.6 assists while playing in 80 games, starting 5 for Boston in his rookie season. The Pacers will pick up the remaining two years of Greene's contract worth $1.5 million. Celtics coach called Greene as "tough as nails," but his rookie season was marred by a recklas driving charge on March 29th. The Celtics suspended Greene for one game after he drove his SUV on a suburban Boston street more than 90 miles per hour.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I think Greene has a ton of potential. Here at Florida there were questions about his work ethic but never his ability. The key to me is that his strength is somewhat of a lost art. Personally, I never really think of him as a point guard. Offensively he is a little more of a slasher. He has good size, especially for a 1, but he doesn't really break a defense down all that well. But what he lacks on offense, he makes up for on the other end of the floor. He is very long but has very quick feet. When he puts his mind to it, he is one of the better defensive guards in the league, but thusfar his problem has been consistency. Ironically that was pretty much the same story here at Florida. If the Pacers' staff can get him motivated to give 100% effort 100% of the time then they got a real steal. Only time will tell.

Orien Greene is another home town product. Like I said he signed with Florida but really blossomed after he transferred to Louisiana-Lafeyette. He was two-time Sun Belt defensive player of the year. He is a legit 6'4" point guard. He is pretty much of a lock down defender ... at least when he wants to be, but he has struggled with showing up every night, and like I mentioned before, his work ethic is suspect as well. I wish him the best, but I hate the Pacers.

Wow....he transferred from Florida, so we have to hear about him here?
If anyone needs me, I'll be on the Florida board regaling Gator fans with the legends of Tony Bethel, Drew Hall, Demetrius Hunter and Derrick Patterson. I'm sure they'll appreciate it.

If so, go talk to them where they'll actually enjoy and know what you are talking about, because nobody cares about current or ex Florida players on this site--unless we're playing your team.

You guys are missing the point. I don't think of him as one of my "flock." He left because he didn't get enough playing time and didn't like busting his a$$ enough in practice. If I were talking about Udonis Haslem then it would be one thing. He worked his tail off, stayed 4 years and led us to the big dance all four years, including a trip to the title game one year. But I am not here writing about Gators. Greene just happened to have been one at one time. Now he is in the NBA and this is the board for "Pro and College Sports." This is news: it happened just yesterday. And as far as relevance, Boston is not that far from GU. I think some of you are just looking to cause trouble for no reason. As far as Greene goes, I really do think he could be a solid NBA guard if he gets in the proper mindset. But nothing I have seen in his history indicates that such is likely. Lighten up Francii.

I like hifigator as much as the next Hoyatalk poster, but at least he managed to find the right board this time. Now we just need to work on relevance. Or at least funny/interesting irrelevance.

In other NBA news:
The Sixers re-signed Willie Green on Wednesday. Terms were not disclosed but the deal is said to be similar to the five-year, $17 million package (four years, plus an option) he was offered last summer, then withdrawn when he suffered a knee injury.
I found this relevant because he has the same last name as Oriene Greene although spelled differently. They both played college basketball and are guards in the NBA.
Now that I think of it, Philly is even closer to GU then Boston. I probably should have started a seperate thread.

My neighbor's name is William... he mowed his lawn today.
My friend's last name is Green. He drives a Jeep Cherokee.
C'mon guys... asking hifigator to be relevant? You should know better by now...

In other Florida-related news, Teddy Dupay laid 9/5 against hifigator posting anything relevant on the hoyatalk board in the next 90 days. When asked why, Dupay replied, "hey, man, I knew Orien Greene. And hifigator is no Orien Greene." Or something like that. Neal Walk also chimed in. Steve Spurrier had no comment.

Now you guys are making some "sense" ... or is that "sensamilia" Either way, just because someone else started it ... This is a true story. I sold a kick-a$$ stereo system to a Willie Green. He was a 5 star recruit running back a few years ago. He broke a lot of high school rushing records. Unfortunately his knees gave out and he never developed into a college star player. The part of the story that I thought you might have found somewhat interesting was that he purchased all of the stuff for his system from me, but he was having it installed back where he was from at a shop in Altamonte Springs. The next time I saw him I asked him how he liked it. He said that he heard it sounded really great. I asked him what he meant and he told me that his brother had picked the car up from the shop and wrecked it that night. He never even got a chance to hear it a single time. Fortunately I think insurance took care of most of it for him, but that is a true story about a Willie Green.

I may be showing my ignorance .... and yes I know that opens the door for you all to mingle in ... but I seriously have no idea what the Rae Carruth reference is all about. He is not a Gator at all ... not sure how he "fits" in this equation ...

Rae Carruth in currently in prison, having been convicted of arranging for the murder of his pregnant girl friend.
Wasn't he an All-American wide receiver at UF in his college days? If I've made a mistake, I apologize for the reference, but I think I'm correct.

He never played here or went to school here. I honestly don't remember him being at FSU either ... although it sure sounds like he went there.
