Forget about Tobacco Road; the hotbed of roundball is Alligator Alley! At least for one year, the roundball world revolves around Florida!

Alligator Alley runs from Broward County, across the everglades to Naples on the west coast. Unless my georgraphy of the state is mistaken, the city of Gainesville is nowhere to be found on that route, not even close. sofia.usgs.gov/virtual_tour/alalley/index.html

Actually, "Alligator Alley" is a term for many things. That was the nickname for the old Florida Gym where the Gators played hoops before the O'Conell Center was built. It is also the name for the highway through the Everglades that Miami was mentioning and it is the slang term for the whole turnpike system. I figured since the National Champs in College were on one end, and the National Champs in the pros were on the other .... It was a natural play on words.
You aren't really that upset at this thread are you? I thought this was relatively tame. Besides we were all pretty much pulling for the Heat last night weren't we?

We were rooting for Miami because of Zo. However, posting some BS like this was completely unneccesary. We don't care about Florida basketball!!! I hope we meet at some point during the year so that the Hoyas can get their revenge and rip the Gators a new one.

Incidentally, there was an article in the paper today discussing the same point as this thread. Only 4 times in history has the NCAA hoops Champion and the NBA Champion come from the same state. It happened twice in the 70's. Both times UCLA won the NCAA title and Golden State and the Lakers each won a title the same years. The last time it happened prior to Tuesday night was in 1989. Michigan won the college title and the Pistons won in the NBA.

Ah, yes, 1972 was a very good year in many ways. Just not for Hoya basketball.
