Small Forward Dan Werner will join the Florida Gators in time for Summer B classes this month, and will be on next year's basketball team. Werner was the player of the year in New Jersey high school basketball last year. He originally signed a letter of intent to play for N.C. State, but was granted a release after the Wolfpack's head coaching change. Werner had signed with Herb Sendek's Wolfpack squad before Sendek left for the Arizona St. Sun Devils. Werner didn't place the blame for backing out on new coach Sidney Lowe. "Coach Lowe is going to do an awesome job there (N.C. State)," Werner said. "It just didn't seem like the right fit."
Werner said it finally came down to Rutgers, Florida and Kentucky. After crossing his home state Scarlet Knights off the list, Werner said that ultimately the chance for early playing time at Kentucky was overshadowed by Florida's rich tradition.
The defending National Champion Florida Gators return their entire starting front line as well as key reserve Chris Richard, so Werner is likely to find early playing time hard to come by, but it doesn't scare Werner. "Coach told me with the roster he has returning, he feels like I can fill a need," Werner said. "He gave me an idea of playing time and minutes. But it all depends on how hard I work ... I see it as a tremndous opportunity, learning from those guys (Noah, Horford and Brewer)."

That is possibly the funniest thing that I have ever read. What rock are you living under if you think that UF has more tradition than UK? I know you will respond back with some illogical post on the subject, so I'm not going to read it.

I exercised a slight bit of literary freedom for that very humorous effect. The original article was from the Gainesville Sun entitled "Gators add coveted recruit to '06 class" and I'm sure you can find the link if you are really interested. Seriously, all I did was add that one phrase at the "opportune" point. The rest was verbatim. I'm glad you found it amusing.

I'm sure that Adolph Rupp can stop spinning in his grave in whatever white's only cemetary he's burried in now.

Wow, anyone got any ideas for a thread they would care less about than Florida recruits?
It's tough, but I think perhaps one concerning the head coaching candidates for the Serbia sans Montenegro WC squad just might edge it for me. Still, I should keep my mouth shut, I suppose by responding I am feeding the beast, so to speak...

What an excellent movie. Of course I knew the story, but I don't go to many movies. It gets a might expensive with a family of 5! But we all thoroughly enjoyed it.

... but I don't go to many movies... hifi doesn't get out of the house much. There's a shocker. Easily one of your worst threads ever, hifi. Don't you have a Florida board where people might actually want to talk about this? Just curious, what kind of conversation were you hoping to start with this? I mean, Werner was reported to Florida a while ago. This is hardly breaking news. On the basketball page his status was change to UF in the Recruiting thread at the end of May.

If you think Dan Werner is some star player, you have another thing coming. He's a good perimeter shooter but doesn't strike me as much of a defender. A SF/PF tweener.

Personally, I've always thought of him as an okay offensive coordinator, if maybe a bit too predictable at times. If he'd just get a consistent group of wide receivers who don't drop everything thrown at them, maybe he'd seem a lot smarter. hurricanesports.cstv.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/werner_dan00.html

Well, I don't know. When I read that "rich tradition" nonsense I laughed out loud. While I share the sentiment that this thread has no purpose (which makes me an idiot, I guess, for even bothering to read it), I would say that anyone who didn't realize that line was a joke needs to shake himself.

Good point and the "Star Player" was a bit of an embellishment. I think he was rated as the 80th best prospect by rivals and 16th at his position. All the clippings on him credit him as being an excellent shooter and adept passer with great vision. They don't say much about his defense or any inside game.
