He wants more playing time. He was the rotation's ninth man and he's looking to be a starter at some other school. Pitt is among those interested.

Yeah, the talk down here was that he saw the handwriting on the wall, and realized that his minutes would not increase dramatically next year. We also lost Jimmy Sutton who never overcame knee surgery. He was expected to replace the minutes that we lost in departed senior Adrian Moss. In the case of Huertas, I think he never felt comfortable on campus as well. I think he was from a smaller Christian school and he was the BMOC but became just a little fish in the big old pond of UF. I wish him well. He was a nice kid and never a trouble maker and never complained about his minutes ... at least openly.

On a related note, Billy Donovan has a history of guys leaving early ... and not just for the NBA. For whatever reason, it seems like we have at least one guy transfer every year. I know other teams face the same thing, but down here Billy has been catching a bit of heat, as silly as that sounds for the Coach who led his team to the title. In fact even half way through the season there were doubters about his ability. We hadn't made it to the Sweet 16 since we lost in the title game in 2000. Some critics said that he worked the guys too hard and that it ran off some players who didn't like that style as well as wearing out the team so that we were tired come tournament time. I never really bought that idea, but before this past March Madness it did make some sense.
If you look at players who conceivably could have been here this year but weren't, you could make up a pretty good team. Had he come to school, theoretically Kwame Brown could have been a senior, playing alongside James White who trasferred to Cincy, Muhammed Abukar who went to San Diego St. I think, Mario Boggan who went to Ok. St. and Ryan Appleby who went to Washigton.
I don't know if it is just a series of coincidences or if there is any validity to the idea that Billy's tough practices are actually running guys off. If that were the reason then the timing would seem awfully strange, coming on the heels of winning the Natty Tite.
