I'm rooting for the Daddy & D-Wade. I've loved the big fella ever since he was exiled from LA.
I think if you honestly had to name one player in this finals series, regardless of skill, who WANTS it the most, you'd have to say D-Wade, no?
I love and hate Mark Cuban - but some sports writer said it best - "at least he makes it interesting".
I think I'm going to pick the Mavs in 6. They have enough big bodies to throw at Shaq (damp / diop), while on the flipside, no one to match up even decently with Dirk. The Mavs are very tough to beat because there are so many phases of the game they execute well. Ultimately, I think their personnel are better - younger, faster, more athletic. But then again, there is a lot of playoff savvy in this Miami bunch - and a thursday start SHOULD give D-Wade enough time to fully recover from the flu....

I have to root for Zo all the way. Even though he is only a role player here, I just want him to get his ring. He may throw Dirk off his game once or twice.

I love Cuban. I love Dirk. I have a mild fondess for Josh Howard and an intense dislike of Jason Terry.
It really doesn't matter. This finals is all about getting Zo his ring in terms of my rooting interest.

I'd love to see Stern give Cuban the trophy, but not at the expense of Zo being the 3rd Hoya Basketball player to get a pro ring.

I'm all for Zo getting his ring too. That's why I wanted the Heat to make the Finals last season. I'm glad he and the Heat will get his opportunity this year. I must say I also have a soft spot for Riley who has been unable to get amother championship since his days with the Lakers in the 80s. I like Dallas and all although they beat my Suns. But Zo and Riley are a priority to me.

I'm with MCI on this. While I'm no fan of the Big Windbag, I would very much like to see Zo get a ring, and I will forever have a soft spot for Riles. I also love Wade; don't see how any fan couldn't.

Sorry, but I'm pulling for the Mavs. I hope they beat the pants off the heat. I want to see Pat Riley get egg on his face and in his moose gel for sanbagging Van Gundy. That ain't right. I hate Shaq. Always have. I hate Jason Williams. I like Wade, Antoine Walker, and Zo. I respect Gary Payton and Haslem. But I'm pulling for the Mavs.
Honestly, I think this will be a repeat of the NBA finals 2 years ago. Mavs are too quick for the Heat. The Mavs are also battle-tested. They beat the Spurs and Suns, two great teams with different styles of play where the Mavs had to adjust, even their starting lineups. Too much young athletic legs and smart players, plus Dirk on the Mavs. Mavs in 6.

If Satan himself were coaching the Heat, I'd be pulling for them. It's all about Zo. Go Heat.

I think its pretty obvious who i'm rooting for...but if I had to pick out one reason as the biggest one, its has to be 'Zo...he has stuck with the Heat through good times and bad times and has had to overcome alot to finally get to the finals...I love Shaq, Wade, and Riley, but more than anyone, I want to see Mourning lift that Championship Trophy.

That whole "Riley sandbagged Van Gundy" argument has gotten old and stupid at this point. There is absolutley no evidence to prove that RIley forced out Van GUndy, and everyone involved has repeatedly stated that Riles actually tried over and over again for weeks to get Stan to stick around. Until you have evidence otherwise, it was Stan's decision to leave the team, and his alone. Either way though, he had the team off to a 11-10 start that was unacceptable, and look what Riley has done: gotten the team to the NBA finals. I dont know if Stand would have or wouldn't of done the same. Point is though, Riley did, so it worked out for the best. I wish Stan the best and hope he gets a head coaching job somewhere else because he deserves it, but he quit on the team and Riley got them to the finals. That should be enough to end this stupid argument.

There is absolutley no evidence to prove that RIley forced out Van GUndy Well, except that his name is Pat Riley. ;D I'm not sure if there are too many Riley defenders on the board, but your point is well taken. He did get them there. Can't really argue with that. _way's opinion aside, I think most of the rest of the board is pretty well unified in pulling for the Heat if -- as everyone else has pointed out -- for no other reason than for 'Zo. Heartwarming, really. It's like Matt Dillon in The Outsiders 'round this thread (except, ironically, his name is Dallas). Damn those socs down in Texas!

Once again, the_way proves he's not a real Hoya fan. And here I thought the McNamara avatar would be the pinnacle of exposing _way for the non-Hoya fan he is. Silly me... Go Zo. Jaren can't be the only Hoya with an NBA ring... that's pathetic (no offense to Jaren). Unless you were raised a Mavs fan, you better be pulling for Zo if you call yourself a Hoya fan.

Got nothing but love for Zo, but can't pull for Riley or Shaq. Just can't do it. I hope the Heat gets swept. I can't pull for losers like Shaq and Riley. Riley punks a great guy like Van Gundy. And, if Dwyane had healthy ribs last year, the Heat would have been in the finals last year. Riley made his coach a lame duck. I ain't got no respect for that. Thats not being a champion. And Shaq ain't no better. He destroyed the Lakers with his selfishness. He wouldn't stay in shape in LA, but he did it Miami. He wouldn't take a paycut in LA to help the team, but he did it in Miami. I hope he gets egg on his face too in the finals.

I have to chime in here. I doubt that there is a bigger Laker fan on this board than I am. Thanks to Chick, the Lakers became an integral part of my life pretty much from the day they moved to LA. You all probably know my view on the Shaq/Kobe contretemps, and my current antipathy toward Shaq.
Nevertheless, I am more than willing to subject myself to the swill that Shaq will spew out if the Heat win the title, in order to see Zo get a ring. With all due respect, _way, you've got this one wrong. You need to support the Heat. Not that our support will make any difference to the outcome, but if your admiration for Zo is as great as you claim, you have to get behind him here and put the other stuff aside.
