I doubt you get much coverage of this up there. This is typical Seminole hijinx. It shows "what they are all about." Don't confuse them with us civil Gators.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The rules being changed, Bowden now qualifies for early entry into the Football Hall of Shame.****************************
Commentary by Mike Bianchi Orlando Sentinel
It was Christmastime, 1993, when former Florida State football player Michael Gibson raped her.
He broke into her apartment, shot her twice, leaving two gaping holes in her chest. Then, as she lay there bleeding and crying, he continued with the sexual assault. And then he left her for dead.
Except before he left the scene, this deranged monster of a man took one final liberty:
Michael Gibson stole the Christmas presents on his way out.

I guess Bowden was just posturing for all future recruits saying "we'll stand behind you til the end, through thick or thin ... through burglary or rape ...

Wow! A gator fan posting something negative about FSU. Stop the presses. I never liked UF football all that much. I have to admit that stomping my Huskers put on the Gators in the championship game was sweet. However, now I've been forced to root for UF now that Urban is in charge. I can't wait to see what he can do over the next few years (Beano Cook's delusions not withstanding).

Just like Syracuse is your hated rival, we have the Noles. But is there the bitter animosity of the Orange where not only are they the hated enemy but almost a separate battle going on to identify your team as being "better" ... not just on the court but in everything? We really have a different fealing when compared to FSU than say Georgia or Tennessee for example. We really feel like we are better than FSU regardless of who won the most recent game. FSU really is lax on discipline. They really do cheat whenever possible and they really do deny these facts. Not that Florida doesn't have the occassional bad apple but for FSU the bad apple is the norm. The question is not how did some guy like this rapist end up at FSU but rather how a really quality individual like Warrick Dunn could have come from FSU without any of their infamous tarnish sticking to him?

Its cute how the gators and 'noles fight and argue over who's better, while the 'Canes just watch from above knowing they are the top of the states athletic pride...

miami this will be true until the 'Canes have a down year. At this point every person in S. FL that roots for the 'Canes will jump ship and root for another team. Typical behavior from the fair weather fan constituency that makes up that area.
You can say what you want about the 'noles hifi. I remember a certain linebacker from UF getting into run-ins with the law a few years ago. I can also tell you that shenanigans go on at EVERY major college football program that is successful.

Also, they go on at unsuccessful, non-major programs. And with members of the general student body that have nothing to do with sports teams...

I remember a certain linebacker from UF getting into run-ins with the law a few years ago. I can also tell you that shenanigans go on at EVERY major college football program that is successful. The Canes are certainly not the top sports program in the state. They have had the most success in football, but not as a whole sports program. And we are very excited about what Meyer is doing with the program. We are almost certainly going to be a top 5 team this year. The schedule is absolutely brutal this year, so a loss or two is going to be tough to avoid, but Meyer has the program headed back to where it was with Spurrier. As to "shenanigans" going on, certainly no school is immune. The linebacker you mention was Taurean Charles and yes he was a bad apple. The difference between Florida and FSU however, is how situations like that are handled. At Florida he was kicked off the team and out of school entirely. At Miami they would have made him run some stadium steps and at FSU they would have put one of those stupid spear stickers on his helmet. THat is the point. FSU overlooks infractions to a fault. Miami built their whole image on the "bad boy" theme. But I am not here to bash Miami. The real culprit is FSU. It is ridiculous the crap they pull and somehow get away with it. They make a mockery out of "rules." For some reason nothing sticks to "Saint Booby." He has this "aw shucks" kind of "good old boy" image and it is entirely unjustified. He is almost like Slick Willie Clinton in that regard. I'm not making this up. Most of you probably haven't heard a lot of the things Booby has said. One of his famous lines was "well sure I believe in discipline, but I don't want to cut off my nose to spite my face." He's scum of the earth, but I digress. The main point is that yes, all schools have disciplinary problems from time to time. Spurrier and now Meyer, say what you will about them, but they don't cater to a bunch of prima dona derelicts who put themselves above the team or their teammates. If you get in trouble under either of their watches you are in serious trouble, not the kind of wrist slap nonsense that FSU banters about.

As for the dolphins, call me when they return to the glory of the early 70s...and who are these "Florida Panthers" of which you speak? When have they ever won a championship?

You both nailed that one. Miami fans in general are the biggest group of fair weather fans around. Maybe it is because barring hurricanes the weather is so fair. Actually it probably has a lot to do with so many people moving there from other areas that they don't have as much of a "home town" feel and fan base. But when the Hurricanes were in their heyday, Miami shirts were all over. They did back the Marlins twice ... several years apart. I read back a ways that about 2 years ago the most popular Sports Jersey in Miami was Tom Brady's. Imagine that.

I don't know what your talking about with South Florida fans not being into it. I'm busy right this moment planning the tailgate to end all tailgates for the next Fusion vs. Mutiny MLS game.

You're kind of a morbid individual. Needless to say, no we don't tailgate for those "activities." We have tailgated for football, baseball, basketball, softball and even tennis and volleyball. That was the point. I think if it fit the schedule we would tailgate for a soccer match ... even to the point of missing the game possibly. Not sure what your point in the link is, but from all it said he did nothing but exercise his first ammendment rights. It looks like the authorities might be attempting to coerce excessive search and seizure. I don't know. I prefer that people not write about morbid death and the sort. But they certainly have every right to.
