If I am not mistaken, between them, both finalists have a grand total of one Major League player. Wow. Probably not exactly what Bud had in mind.

I think in the states, this thing has had exactly one interested viewer too.
Must we make everything into some international standoff? The World Cup and the Olympics do just fine. Everything else is overkill.

To be honest, I wanted to like this thing but it just fell flat. I understand that baseball is a legit international sport probably as much as baskteball is, and that they wanted to make a big push into those markets. But when the US played Mexico in Southern California in an important game and it didn't sell out, that spoke pretty loudly that the interest just isn't there. It didn't help that the US was facing the prospect of being eliminated from the whole thing after their first loss. What a joke for a sport like baseball. If they could not find time for best of three series', then it just really should have never happened. Here's guessing this is the first and last "classic."

Some of it may also be a product of March Madness. Baseball does not have the same following that soccer has. In Europe, some fans are "soccer-onlies," but, in the US, I venture to guess that many a baseball fan are currently tuned into CBS for the month.
I think the US' performance is embarassing, but I venture to guess the players care as much as we do, which is to say not at all. Better for MLB teams to play some international exhibitions during the all-star break if you want some coverage/interest, but owners would never allow it.

Not so fast. This is perhaps the biggest thing to ever hit latin america...ever. If you don't think the fact that 90% (real fact) of all tvs in the DR and Cuba being tuned to the WBC is incredibly alluring to MLB you are crazy.

thebin, you're honestly the first person I've heard who has watched a game on tv or gone to won that has disliked the experience.
It's a lot of fun, especially for the non-American fans. For people just following on Sportscenter, I'm sure it doesn't do much, but the games have been great.
