So I'm a Miami fan, and I just want to know from some of you mid-western people (RDF?), should I just shoot myself in the head now?
I like Saban a lot and I guess a second rounder isn't too bad, but I was really, really pulling for Drew Brees to see the light and sign with the team that could actually win next year. Culpepper worried me before he got the worst knee injury you can possibly do. Now he just scares the crap out of me.
Lots of interesting things happening in the NFL right now overall. Vince Young or Matt Leinhart could fall out of the top 5 in the draft.

Well, I don't think you got a bad player--he's good, but not as good as he was hyped--I mean how hard is it to play against a defense when most of your career you knew that one side would always be playing Man to Man? Once Moss was gone he struggled because he can't read defenses well and it was new to him--also he lost an OC (Linehan--now Rams Coach) who was good for him.
Don't read much into the off the field stuff--Culpepper is no worse then any other guy who just was out having fun--and he didn't participate in the lewder stuff--he was just the most recognizable guy there--so they fingered him out.
As for why he's a Dolphin--Mrs. Culpepper was NEVER going to let Duante back to Twin Cities--she let that be known through some female friends of mine who know her/him well and party with many Vikings up here--and needless to say she was PO'd. That's why he was emailing Childress and not attending meetings to learn offense, etc... as he was trying to get traded/released all along.
Smoot is the ringleader of the nasty crap--and he's a goon off the field too from what the ladies have told me--but that shouldn't surprise anyone who knows of him from DC.
Only thing I'd worry about is Culpepper's knee--he might not be ready for half the year from what I've heard behind the scenes--but it's not a bad investment and I'd rather have him at QB then some of the junk available after Brees went off market.

Daunte's good when he's well coached, like he was in 2004 when Scott Linehan was there. He beat Favre at Lambeau in the playoffs, and he had a ridiculous season, one of the most productive ever by a QB, and without much of a running game either (and Moss missed 4-5 games that year, so his output wasn't solely due to Moss)
Linehan left after that, leaving Daunte at the mercy of Mike Tice'sand Steve Loney, who was the OC, AND the OL coach. And he was still pretty good against the crappy teams, which were the only ones the Vikings beat last year (excluding the craziness that was the Giants game).
His problems come when he tries to do too much and forces plays. He also has smallish hands, so there are some fumbling problems, but those usually come on his scrambles, which I assume will be cut down. He's accurate too--he set the NCAA record for completion percentage, and was close to the NFL's in 2004.
With Ronnie Brown, a solid D and a good coach in Saban, you'll be really happy with Daunte.
