Boz, I'm still not recovered. With our full roster, I know the Sabres would be hoisting The Cup THIS season. No doubt.
But after skipping Game 1 because I was Editeded, I have seen the rest. I love hockey. Period. The best.
And you're right... Game 7 in the NHL beats Game 7 in any other sport. Bar none.
(As for Peca... I'm a bit luke-warm on the idea of him winning. Although, that flake The Dominator won so I guess I could stomach Mike and his hot wife Kristen getting pics with Lord Stanley's hardware).

Well, congrats to the 'Canes. I definitely wasn't pulling for them, but they played a great game 7. Turned Edmonton's game right back around at 'em, & it looked for a lot of the game like the Oilers didn't know what to do about it.
(I don't expect you to offer congratulations, Buffalo, don't worry. If it had been the Bruins who Carolina had beat in the conference finals, I'd be spitting acid right about now.)
Everyone at ESPN has been mocking the NHL all season --- hmm, wonder if they'd do that if the NHL was playing on one of their networks. . .a-holes --- but this has been some incredible hockey this year. Virtually all of the rule changes have worked to the game's benefit (got to do something about diving before this turns into soccer, though). My own team is a very long way away from catching up to those rules, I think, but on the whole, the game is better for it.
The NHLPA were complete idiots for letting last year happen, but then again, no one ever accused hockey players of being the brightest bulbs. Just ask John LeClair. (or don't ask him, if you want an intelligible response). That was completely moronic.
For all of that though, NHL got a much needed reality check (at a much too high a price, but still). They're down at the moment, but there is a much stronger foundation now to build on. If anything, next season is going to be even better. I can't wait already. (Except for the fact that the Bruins are likely to trade Patrice Bergeron for a bag of pucks.)
Great season. Great playoffs. Great ending. Thank you hockey for being back! (. . .you dumbasses)

Here's my last post on the topic (I'm still smarting from that Eastern Conference Finals loss... our full roster beats Carolina's every time).
Season was amazing. Every rule change worked out real well (except the automatic minor for shooting the puck over the glass in your own end... should be like icing, where your players need to stay on the ice and the faceoff is in your own zone). The refs kept calling penalties all season long and through the playoffs. Skill players retook the game. Attendance was up. Despite the yapping in the media, the ratings for the games on NBC were higher than the ones two years ago on ABC for the Finals. The game is back. Its only going to get bigger.
Oh... and my main man Lindy got the Jack Adams award. Total. Pimp.
But how ironic was it that one of the presenters was none other than TED NOLAN???
EDIT: Boz... B's get Kessell. Very nice.

EDIT: Boz... B's get Kessell. Very nice. Uh, yeah. Great news. For some other team in three years! No, I was happy with the pick. I was even happier with what I think might be a great hire recently, bringing Don Sweeney back as director of player development. Now, if the top dogs can just stick their heads up their asses and stay out of the way, things might just get better in Boston. Funny (not funny "haha", funny "hmmmm") comment by Bob Ryan the other day. After Joey T. won the Hart, he mentioned that he was just on loan. He didn't sound like he was joking either. I wonder.........nah. Never mind. And congrats to Lindy. As a player, he was pants (my new favorite English slang word courtesy of Michael Davies), but he was a no brainer for coach of the year.

Yeah, I saw that use of "pants" in his blog... what the hell does it mean? Can you use it in a sentence I might actually understand?
If its good, use Gil Perreault in the sentence.
If its bad, use Tie Domi.

From the slang dictionary: pants 1. [Noun/Adj.] Nonsense, rubbish, bad. From the standard British of pants, meaning underwear; also a variation on 'knickers'. e.g."The first half was pants but then Becks curled in that brill strike in the 60th minute!" 2. [Exclam.] An exclamation of annoyance or frustration. From the noun, (above).
I've gotten to be friends with an ex-Brit intelligence officer recently, so I've been picking up some other stuff. "e-ed," is also an expression I'm quite fond of, which is pretty self-explanatory in a drinking alcolhol sense. Sounds so much better than the American variation.
