C'mon Buff, wanted to know where you stood on who the Dead Things pummel on their way to the Cup.
My Flames can make it a long playoffs for Detroit, but only if Kiprasoff stands on his head. Sharks are hot at the right time -- maybe? Nah. Oiler/Canucks/Mighty Ducks/Preds just don't have enough.
So... my money says Ottawa/Detroit, Detroit winning. I'd like to take an underdog (Habs 'cause of Huet? Sharks run the table?) but I think this is the NHL equivalent of the Pistons/Spurs Final, part XXIX, which will be playing about the same time.
Looks like everyone is picking your boys, Buffalo. I wonder if Primeau will play. What's Hecht's status? I couldn't find anything about that on ESPN or NHL.com. Should be a heck of a series.
I have virtually no rooting interest in these playoffs, so I'm just hoping for 7-game series all the way around.
Well, with a few exceptions. I know I will be hoping the Rangers and Habs go down in humiliating fashion. I think I might get my wish with Montreal, but Rangers-Devils should be a battle to the end.
Melrose likes the Sharks as a dark horse in the West, but I just can't see Detroit losing to anyone (even though I will be rooting for Sergei against them - hey, I gotta' find some Bruins to root for somewhere). San Jose should get through the first round though. I do hope Thornton does well, believe it or not. We'll see if his playoff disappearing act was a Boston phenomenon, or whether he's brought it with him.
Actually, come to think of it, Detroit probably could get their biggest test right away in the first round. But I'm not ballsy enough to call the upset in that one. Would love to see Colorado upset Dallas, but the Avs just don't have it this year.
Wow, I'm all over the place, aren't I? So, I'll take Ottawa, Carolina, NJ and Buffalo in the East. Detroit, Dallas, San Jose and Anaheim in the West. Not the bravest picks, I know. Only a couple minor upsets. Anaheim is really the only true upset, gonna' go with youth over experience in that one (sorry Frostback, nothing personal).

Wow. The NHL playoffs really is the best thing going in pro sports. Surely crushes the dull-as-hell NBA playoffs.
This Ottawa-TB game is a perfect advertisement for the new NHL. TB leads throughout, but in the 3rd gets called for two penalties they would have gotten away with two years ago. Ottawa scores on both PP's. And talk about pretty goals...
... OH MAN!!! Ottawa with a shorthanded tally. SICK. These guys - as much as I hate 'em - are fun as hell to watch.
Meanwhile, over on OLN, from what I've caught, Edmonton is really controlling against the Dead Things. That's one upset I'd LOVE to see. I've always rooted for the Oilers these past few seasons when they've seemingly always been a 6, 7, or 8 seed (sorry, Frostback).
Wow... first I've seen of the SJ-Nashville game... and Nashville killing 'em. Yikes.
OH LORD... PLEASE TELL ME YOU PEOPLE SAW THAT CAMPBELL HIT ON UMBERGER?!?!?!
Hit. Of. The. Year. And that includes the NFL, WWF, whatever. Holy hell. Great camera work, too, to get focused in on his glazed eyes and face right after he was laid out. Jesus, that was BRUTAL!!! And totally clean... WOO HOO!!
Also, the playoffs are young but have been so great so far. All the haters out there are losing all their ammo, esp. with the refs enforcing the rules and all that jazz. I love this game...
With the exception of Georgetown basketball, nothing -- I repeat NOTHING -- beats the NHL playoffs.
World Series? Bah! Still watching the grass grow, just a more important lawn.
NFL playoffs? I love football, but too much stop and start for the excitement to really build in most cases.
NBA playoffs? Hitting is not allowed.
Good God, these games have been great so far. I'll see your Campbell hit, Buffalo (amazing), and raise you about 18 similar such hits in the Detroit-Edmonton series. Totally awesome!
If you're not glued to your seat in an NHL playoff game in overtime, you're not breathing!

Boz, 'Bridge, Frostback, SFO... are you guys WATCHING THIS? These playoffs have been nothing short of FREAKIN' SWEET!!! Its pathetic all the talking heads on ESPN and the like are ignoring it, especially when these guys hold themselves out as sportswriters (and yet they only have a decent amount of knowledge about a few sports, and even then they don't hop on board until late in the game).
Sabres-Leafs: Wow. Domination by the Sabres, and complete GOONERY by the Flyers. I've never seen such a physical, hotly-contested 8-2 game. Going to be a WAR in Philly tomorrow. Gauthier should be suspended for his boarding of Vanek. HORRIBLE cheap shot.
Habs-Canes: STUNNED that Montreal is taking it to them like this. I thought they had a chance at winning, but taking two in Raleigh? Wow. Didn't see that coming... or the complete collapse of Martin Gerber.
Ottawa-TB: Ottawa looked great in game one, but Tampa exposed their weaknesses in game two. And if they keep playing that game, they could find themselves up 3-1 heading back to Ottawa.
NJ-NY: Dominated by NJ. No surprise there. Rangers blow, as they have the last quarter of the season.
Detroit-Edmonton: Looks like Frostback's call on the Dead Things may be proven correct! Built up a huge season in a crappy division, and now they are playing one of my this-time-of-year favorite teams, the Oilers, who just scrap the hell outta ya. Hope McTavish can bottle this up and get a win or two back in Alberta.
Calgary-Ducks: I thought Calgary was going to run away with this. Kiprusoff v. Giggy is going to prove to be quite the battle. Phanuef and Hamrlik are a combined -9 through two games? Yikes...
Avs-Stars: Stars getting housed. I love it. Haven't seen much of either of these games, but every time I turn it on, the Avs score a goal or two. Granted they snuck one out in OT, but this is Avs hockey at its best... stars rise, big goals, goaltending when it counts, etc.
Nashville-Sharks: I'd like to see the Sharks keep winning if only so Thornton can laugh at all the dopes in Boston who said he was garbage (sorry, Boz). Haven't seen much of these games either, but did catch a good deal of game two... Sharks play like that, and they're in the conference finals.
I didn't have the sack to actually pick Colorado, but I do want them to win. Last night's game was amazing. Not as good as the Montreal-Carolina OT, but Colorado is showing much more than I thought they had in 'em. Good for them, I'd love to see Dallas ousted.
As for Joey T., I have nothing against him and will be happy for him if the Sharks advance. But the fact of the matter is, he's got 1 point through two games and that was always the knock on him in Boston. We'll see if he steps it up. Honestly, I hope he does, but he just doesn't seem to be that take charge kind of player.
I am shocked actually that the Rangers are so limp. Yeah, they didn't finish well, but I was really expecting a hard fought series. It has been nothing of the sort. Rangers haven't even belonged on the same ice as the Devils through two games. We'll see if it changes in the Garden, but I haven't seen any signs of life from NY.
Without my own team to cheer for, Detroit-Edmonton has definitely been my favorite series so far. I can only hope for 5 more games as good as the first two.

I have been watching, listening to the playoffs since I don't get OLN. I even tuned into French CBC Radio last night for the double overtime thriller between my Habs and the Canes. I almost had a heart attack just listening to "il lance et compte" over and over, I can't imagine I would have survived actually watching the game.
...meanwhile on ESPN2, professional paintballing...
Tonight my auxillary team, the Sharks, look to take a lead in their series. I'm not ready to predict a Cup run for them, but I think it isn't out of the question. I heart Joe Thornton.
Otherwise I watch some games on Comcast.net. (BTW, you don't have to be a Comcast subscriber to partake) Habs are on tomorrow night. Picture quality ain't bad, but I feel like a dork watching 'TV' on my laptop (and my fiancee reminds me of this often throughout the Hoya season)

To tell the truth, I'm not excited to go to Cleveland, but we have to. If I ever saw myself saying I'm excited going to Cleveland, I'd punch myself in the face, because I'm lying. - Ichiro
I defy anyone to watch both the NBA playoffs and the NHL playoffs and then tell me the NBA is even half as good. There have been a few exciting games in the NBA so far, but it doesn't come close.
I suppose that will be our little secret, though. Too bad more people aren't seeing this. (Brendan Haywood sure seems like he's been watching the hockey playoffs at least).
Last night I was at The Strokes concert, so it was the first night I missed a bulk of the games, but I got home just in time to see the 3rd period and OT of the Colorado-Dallas game. Just outstanding.
(I am SOOOO dragging today.)

ANOTHER Dallas-Colorado OT game!!! The NHL playoffs is so amazing. God love it. Puts the NBA to shame.
ROCK 'EM SABRES!!! Man, I never thought I'd say this, but I'm GLAD to be playing Ottawa over NJ. The Devils are just so freakin' hot right now.
Great comeback by Carolina to take the series from Les Habs. Once they got Ward locked in between the pipes, it was like their defense shored itself up, their forwards started skating and checking... adios Monsieur Gerber.
The West is in SHAMBLES!!! Edmonton (my favorite non-Sabres team) finally wins a first round series by knocking of the DEAD THINGS (how's that for ya, Frostback?) in six!! Unreal. The more of Ryan Smyth's mullet I get to see, the better.
Colorado and San Jose pull the upsets, keeping some nice big markets in the playoffs (thanks, New York... bums). And if Anaheim can pull the upset in the Saddledome tonight, the BOTTOM FOUR SEEDS in the West will advance.
But I pray that doesn't happen. If Calgary wins, we've got the BATTLE OF ALBERTA on our hands, people! Talk about a war!! LET'S GO FLAMES!!!
I can't believe after this amazing first round we only have one game 7 coming up. (I don't hate Detroit as much as the rest of you, so it's not a big deal to me that they lost, but I was pretty mad at them for blowing game 6 and robbing me of another outstanding matchup - oh well....)
All I want tonight is a war. Something tells me I'll get it. Game 6 was pretty intense, so just jack it up a couple notches Flames & Ducks.
Congrats, Buffalo, both for pasting Philly and for not having to go up (yet) against the juggernaut that is Marty Brodeur and the Devils.
I also expect a war in the Buffalo-Ottawa series. Two teams that know all they need to know about each other and more. Should be great watchin'.

Thank you, Boz. Appreciate the kind words. I just hope the boys can keep up the "Four Line Forcheck" for four more wins. Then I'll worry about Carolina/NJ.
I can't believe the Flames tumbled at home. In Game 7. To those Edited Southern Californians. Ugh. Sad days in Frostback land...
Oh, and for the record, I don't hate the Wings... but I know Frostback does, and my "Dead Things" comment was an homage to his hatred. My old man is friends with Scotty Bowman, so at times in my life I've rooted for the Pens and the Wings... I'm not proud of it, but its one of those things where rooting for those teams brings back childhood memories (like the Cards in '85 and the C's in the 80's).

Buf, for the record, I don't really hate the Wings. In fact (consequence of getting old, probably) I don't really hate anyone this year. Oilers? Old rivals, but they've been in the wilderness as long as the Flames, and really played well against the Wings -- they deserved the win. My Flames, after not being able to score all year, couldn't score (OR EVEN GENERATE *&^! CHANCES) in game 7. With the exception of Iginla, Phaneuf, and Kiprasoff, everybody else is trade bait to get a scorer.
How in God's name do we have 1-4 win in the East and 5-8 in the West?
Great hockey so far. I'm still seeing the Sens coming out of the East. But my Detroit pick went south in a hurry. Ducks go nowhere against someone who can score. Colorado goes nowhere against a real playoff goalie. So... Sharks? (He says, having put on the blindfold and shot a dart at the sportspage.)
And I'm officially old, too. But the key to 'old' is that my two associates have to drag in the coffee in the morning, and all I have to do is grunt between 7:45 and 9, when my day actually begins...
