I always hear about Larry Brown and his "the right way" style of coaching. Yet as a professional, Brown's style is far from the "right way". Larry Brown is probably one of the best coaches to coach period, college or pros. From an X's and O's standpoint, he is impeccable. But he does have is flaws when conducting himself in a professional manner. Just look at this fiasco with him going to Cleveland as the president of operations. Don't be suprised if Brown pulls a Jordan, and steps down and coaches the team after a year so the players and Lebron can learn "the right way". But then again, knowing Brown's history, he will be gone after year in Cleveland, probably to coach the Hornets so he can teach everybody in Mardi Gras the "right way". Larry Brown sure does know how to exit doesn't he. For a man who is so talented in drawing up plays, you would think he could draw up better exit strategies then the ones he has exercised in his career.
And it gets even better. How about Larry Brown talking to Sixers GM Billy King (another horrible protege') throughout the year about Sixers' personnel matters, while Brown is coaching the PISTONS. How about Brown showing up at a Sixers practice during last year's season, while he was, you guessed it, coaching the PISTONS. Or how about Brown's response about Jim O'Brien getting fired by Billy King, "I knew that was coming before it happened". The guy is a nut case. Oh yeah, he is a horrible GM. Just look at the Sixers' cap after he left and the players that were left after he was gone. He was the GM there too.
There have been problems with the players and Brown. They don't like how he has had long practices, etc. My whole take on Larry Brown leaving is that he never liked this Piston team he coached. If you remember last year when the Pistons won the championship, he didn't really look to happy or excited. I think it is because he had nothing to do with the team but coach it. He didn't put his stamp of the "right way" on the team. He didn't do his normal reclamation project with this team that he has always done in the past to show how much of a genius thinks he is. This team was built by Joe Dumars "the right way". In fact, they wouldn't have went far in the playoffs and win the championship last year if Dumars doesn't make the trade for Rahseed Wallace last year.
I respect Larry as coach, one of the best. But he is a weasel to say the least.
