April 28, 2005 From AP:
"Chevon Troutman, who just finished a stellar career as a power forward on the University of Pittsburgh basketball team, will be at the Washington Redskins' minicamp this week in hopes of becoming an NFL tight end.
Troutman, 6-foot-6 and 240 pounds, has said he would prefer to play in the NBA and still hopes to be invited to the league's pre-draft camp in Chicago in June.
On Tuesday, the Denver Broncos signed Wesley Duke, a four-year basketball starter at Mercer. Antonio Gates, who played basketball but not football at Kent State, developed last year into a Pro Bowl tight end for the San Diego Chargers."

The market for small power forwards becoming tight ends may be flooded pretty soon. What about Craig Smith next year? That dude was born to play tight end in the NFL.
Good luck to Troutman. He was a fantastic college player who ALWAYS killed the Hoyas.

Campbell to Troutman does have a certain ring to it.

Campbell to Troutman does have a certain ring to it. A great ring for Eagles fans. "Campbell drops back...under pursuit from Kearse, he throws it in the drection of Troutman...caught! He fumbles! Brian Dawkins absolutely blew him up!" "That's right, looks the engine certainly fell out of the Chevy on that play..." Every off-season I start to get a little concerned about the rest of the division catching up...then I see articles like this and I have to laugh at myself for even entertaining the thought that the NFC East championship will be contested. Okay, maybe I better take this to the Pro Sports board before someone makes a disparaging remark about the Eagles, causing a three-day, five-page flame war...

Joe - wait until you see Bledsoe up close and personal. I guarantee you will be experiencing the 180 degre opposite of the horrors I felt watching him ruin our once beloved Bills the last couple years.
You lucky bastard...

Joe,
Just to chime in on the Bledsoe issue. There will be maybe 5 minutes in the season where it looks like the Cowboys have a chance...maybe they have the ball after a great stop, great field position and two and half minutes to drive the field and kick a field goal for a win. You may get nervous and start to sweat it out a bit.
I'm here to tell you...relax. Go get a beer, make some popcorn and get ready to watch an incredible meltdown. Some quarterbacks are made for pressure situations: Elway, Montana, Favre, Brady, etc ...and well, others seem to turn into something quite different. If there is a polar opposite to calm, cool, collected during crunch time, it is Bledsoe.
So when the Cowboys look like they have life, or the slimmest chance...remember Bledsoe is the nail in the coffin who will do them in. Like a double-agent he'll do whatever he has to to ensure a loss...fumble, dropped snap, interception, dead duck, missed playcall, ill timed time out...you name it, he's got it. To steal a concept from the Sports Guy, he might as well tear off his cowboy jersey to reveal an Eagles jersey...run over and smack Parcells with a folding chair while Madden screams NOOOOOO!

Cambridge, I know all about Drew Bledsoe and his penchant for sucktitude. After watching the end of the Bills-Patriots game last season in Buffalo, I named him the winner of the Vinny Testaverde Memorial "Late-Game Momentum-Killing Interception" Lifetime Acheivement Award. It's amazing how these two guys consistently kill their teams late in games.
I think it was Simmons who wrote that Testaverde probably owns the NFL record for "fumbles while running out the clock," or something to that effect.

the Vinny Testaverde Memorial "Late-Game Momentum-Killing Interception" Lifetime Acheivement Award. The original of course being the 1987 Fiesta Bowl against Penn State. Thank God that was the only time the Hurricanes played a close National Title game in Tempe. espn.go.com/ncf/bowls02/s/fiesta_bestever.html

www.sportsline.com/nfl/story/8430902So much for that experiment. Doesn't really make much sense to me, to cut the guy after one day. I mean, you bring him in as a project, knowing full well that he has little football experience and knowledge, and then you cut him after one day when you realize he has little football experience/knowledge? I just dont get it.

This seems odd. I'm sure the Redskins were hoping they might have another Antonio Gates on their hands. One day hardly seems like enough time to make that judgment.

This seems odd. I'm sure the Redskins were hoping they might have another Antonio Gates on their hands. One day hardly seems like enough time to make that judgment. Well, maybe it seemed hopeless considering this statement: "The hardest part -- getting all the information and learning it and getting what everything means," Troutman said. "At first it looked like Spanish." sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2050221
