As I watch the Nationals play their first spring training game, I keep seeing ads for the two baseball video games, MVP Baseball and MLB 2k5. And I am ready for baseball (and baseball video games), especially considering that their is at most a month of Hoya Hoops left (and the Twins and Nats are looking like fun this year).
Anyway, I'm wondering if anyone has bought either game yet, especially the PS2 version (I have a PS2). The prices are similar enough ($30 v. $20) that I can get either one, so I want to get the best one. Any reviews, recommendations or warnings would be great.

tbird i have mvp 2004, by far the best bball game i have played since NES baseball stars. am eagerly awaiting thursday's release of 2005...despite manny's ugly mug on the cover. for what it's worth, all reviews i have read say Sega's offering is solid, but EA's is better. - borat As I watch the Nationals play their first spring training game, I keep seeing ads for the two baseball video games, MVP Baseball and MLB 2k5. I thought they were out already for some reason. And I tend to be skeptical about the reviews, so I thought I'd throw it out for the board.

I agree with Borat, completely.

Bought MVP 2005. It is good. Highly recommend it, though I wish they made the owner mode better. You have to start out with a single-A type stadium, and then you can upgrade to a better one when you make more money. Dynasty mode is good, though.

Game Informer rates MVP slightly better than 2k5 but from the way the two reviews are written 2k5 has improved greatly. As long as EA doesn't make a deal with MLB like the NFL one, 2k6 may be better than MVP 2006.

Sega made a deal with MLB... there will be no MVP 2006, so 2K6 it is Game Informer rates MVP slightly better than 2k5 but from the way the two reviews are written 2k5 has improved greatly. As long as EA doesn't make a deal with MLB like the NFL one, 2k6 may be better than MVP 2006.

I've played both extensively (only having classes twice a week allows that). They are VERY similar, neither in my experienced game playing opinion puts one ahead of the other.... except the price tag. $20 versus $50. ESPN NFL 2k5 was better than Madden (but I get Madden 'cause he's hilarious and the dynasty mode is a bit better), and ESPN NCAA 2k5 was better than EA's college hoop game (by FAR) and I got both for LESS than what ONE EA game would cost me. So from this hard core gamer, you can't go wrong with either one - but think about price.

buff i got mvp for $30, i think EA did that with all their games to be competitive pricewise. - borat I've played both extensively (only having classes twice a week allows that). I have 2K5 and it takes some getting used to but it is surprisingly good. The batting is pretty hard but the dynasty and stuff is great. Also defense is better in 2K5 then in MVP and after playing both I think its pretty much a toss up. Except 2K5 is 10$ cheaper
