Just thought I'd start a thread for discussion of the upcoming games.

The Eagles fall into the Red Sox Memorial Catagory-they're chokers and always will be until proven otherwise. So if they win, great, but no way would I ever pick them or bet on them right now-plus I don't see Pittsburgh playing as poorly (read Rothlisburger) in this game as they did against the Jets.

Grapes taste their most sour after one's team is humiliated on national television by another.

That and team allegiance has a tendency to skew perception of reality

Okay, I know I'm (incredibly) biased, but I'd like to see someone...ANYONE...explain why nobody respects the Eagles this year. Sure, they've blown the last two (they were 'dogs the year before in St. Louis), but that's in the past. This is a different and BETTER team, with or without Terrell Owens. I was nervous before the Vikings game, mostly because of the long lay-off the starters had, and the uncertainty of whether the Vikings were for real after last week. I realized, probably in the middle of the second quarter, that the Eagles are simply a better team than the Vikings, and they're a better team than the Falcons. Has everybody been drinking the Michael Vick Kool-aid? Or did McNabb, Westbrook, Mitchell, Smith, Dawkins, Kearse, and Trotter all announce their retirements this afternoon?

I think the lack of respect for the Eagles stems from their NFC championship game collapses of the last few years (last year was really awful), and the fact that the NFC was just so downright horrible this year. That said, I agree they are better than the Falcons, and this should finally be their year to get to the Super Bowl.

As I explained before-the only reason I'm not picking the Eagles is that I don't trust them to win despite the fact that they are more talented. As I said before, they are taking up the slack the Red Sox left, and I will not pick them to win until they show me they can win the big game. It has nothing to do with their talent.

The reason I do not respect the Eagles is because of their schedule. They are unproven. They went 2-1 in games against teams that finished over .500. That's it - only 3 games.

It looks like you deserve to be a member of the memorial "why doesn't anybody respect the Pats" club...I mean we spend all winter bitching about the Colts and how everybody fawns all over Peyton...yada yada yada. Then we crush their spirits.
You do the same and ignore all the hoopla. It's even sweeter when the other team gets embarassed.

First off, I respect the Patriots-do I think they are going to beat the Steelers? No, I don't-based on the fact that the Steelers already beat them, the games in Pittsburgh and Seymour is out. Whether or not I'm right, we'll find out on Sunday. Did I think that the Colts would beat the Pats considering the strength of the Colts was their passing and the Pats were missing their 2 starting corners and their best D lineman (Seymour). Is that disrespect? I don't think so. Did the matchup b/w the Colts and Pats look close enough that a thing like snow would have made me pick the Pats? Yes. (And I don't buy the argument that the conditions didn't effect the Colts-whether it looked like it did on TV or not, there's no way a dome team wasn't affected by snow). Obviously, the Pats were a lot better than the Colts-I'm not trying to say the snow was the only reason they won. I'm trying to get yall to understand my reasoning and why I would have PICKED the Pats if I'd known their was snow. That's it. Do I think that the AFC championship game is the de facto Super Bowl? Yes. I assume that you are a Red Sox fan Cambridge-so I'm going to assume you understand why I'm not picking the Eagles-the same reason that a non biased fan would not pick the Sox previous to their comeback against the Yankees. Some teams, if not "cursed" just don't seem to have what it takes to win, for whatever reason. Secondly, Cambridge, I suggest you look at these emails that the Sports Guy printed-as they suggest, Pats fans are dangerously close to Yankee fan territory in that you are starting to assume it is your "manifest destiny" to win. sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=simmons/daily/email

Big ups Buffalo...big ups.
Didn't you know, Bledsoe was the fatted calf we had to sacrafice for all this success. He goes down, we trade him to Buffalo and we win two superbowls and a WS.
As for TBird, I think you are forgetting the same thing I said before the Colts game. I said, the Pat's OFFENSE would win it, which it did, holding the ball for over 60% of the game. I mentioned that for the first time in a long time they were fully healthy on the O side.
Apply that logic to the Steelers-Pats matchup. Last time, Dillon was out. Deon Branch was out. Both starting offensive tackles went down in the first half.
All I'm saying is they're all back and fully healthy. Sure, we have problems on the defensive end, but we've dealt with that all year. The difference is, we're going to run right down the throats of the Steelers, which will open up our passing game and allow us to pick on their rookie safety and DBs. Not to mention, that I have confidence in our ability to take a page right out of the Jets playbook- jam the box with fast hardhitting linebackers and force Big Ben to throw it...
If the Jets hadn't been such choke artists, this conversation would be moot, but at least they showed how vulnerable Big Ben is.
Pat's win by four...20 to 16

Just playing, but seriously, did my man Branch call you out or what?
