He would be a nice addition to the incoming class.,Name is Dejuan Summers
The Owings Mills (Md.) McDonough standout is getting it done this season to the tune of 24 points a game with a high of 31. Summers, who prefers to play on the perimeter, is getting a dose of the inside game at McDonough where, because he’s the biggest guy on the floor, plays down low.
It’s too early to formulate a list for Summers, but plenty are showing interest. Georgetown was in last weekend to see him play. West Virginia and Maryland have been in recently as well. Connecticut was supposed to come watch but had a scheduling conflict that day.
Like most kids these days, Summers wants an offensive system designed to move up and down the court swiftly. “I like a team that runs. I don’t like set offenses and half court that slow it down. I think I have an advantage on most guys because I’m quicker so I’ll like colleges that play like that.”

Yeah, we don't need no prima donnas here. We didn't have them before, and we don't need them now. Maybe the Maryland Twerps will sign. They know all about prima donnas, given John Gilcrist's latest behavior.

Summers has been a target of our's, and I don't think he'd appreciate it if he read some of this kind of stuff.

True, but the quote is a pretty funny one. Could someone tell him that he'll be begging for offensive sets once he realizes that his college opponents are just as quick as he is and he'll need sets to be successful.

what is wrong with a little cockiness every now and then. If he thinks hes the man, let him go out and prove it and if he is, then maybe he is someone we should look at seriously. There is no need to write someone off for saying that they can school others. If there is one thing our team lacks it is a cockiness and swagger that comes with believing you are gonna go out every night and out hustle and outplay your opponents, so I have no problem with a kid being a bit high on himself. It just means hell have more to prove when he gets wherever he ends up.

I had no problem with cockniness. If you back it up, like AI or Jordan, well, what can you say? And if you don't, like Nik Caner-Medley, well, then it is really funny.
I was merely commenting that III had a heckuva recruiting task with this kid is his goal is to go somewhere to play isolation ball.
III may eventually want to run, but we don't now. The Princeton offense isn't necessarily running set plays -- it's a lot more flexible than many NBA offenses, but it isn't "go break down this guy."
I can only imagine the negative recruiting going on with this kid.

Also, AI definitely was a prima donna and he was great for gtown. AI was no prima donna. AI played like his life depended on it. He had a blue-collar type attitude. He wasn't arrogant. He was confident. He wasn't afraid of anybody, but he never tried to intimidate others. Rashad McCants is a prima donna. AI was never one at G'town. He was one in his "practice" mode at Philadelphia under Larry Brown, but Philly also reinforced that behavior. But JT2 made sure AI didn't act like a prima donna. Lets make that clear.

Anyone see "This date in NCAA history" during the Memphis-Marquette game last night? On 1/13/96 (may be wrong on year), AI had 10 steals against Miami. Covering a guard out on the wing, he jumped straight up in the air and picked off an entry LOB pass. Simply unbelieveable. He was ferocious.

I think the one that stood out in my mind the most was in his final game in a G'town uniform against UMASS. In the media, Edgar Padillia and Marcus Camby were talking smack about how they would have to "rough up AI" if AI thought he would be able to go into the lane with such ease as he had in the past. Edgar Padilla even said they were going to "break some ankles". I'll never forget this. The media press asked Iverson about their comments the day before the game, and AI says in his usual tone,"I don't care if its four Marcus Cambys in the paint, I'm taking it to the hole." Game time! Iverson dribbles up the court, crosses up Edgar Padilla , goes into the paint toward Marcus Camby, and dunks over him with not one, but TWO hands. Unbelievable. We lost the game, but hey, un-freakin-believable.

And that steal was part of the two hour highlight tape of the '95-'96 season I made for myself and friends. In college no one had more great highlights than AI.

And since this thread has brought up comments about Summers' feelings concerning offensive sets, let me say that the Hoyas in THAT game would have been better served if JT had an actual game plan on the offensive end. The Hoyas had more talent but UMass was the better team and better coached that day. Summers can be the next MJ for all I care but if there is no plan on offense, if he just goes one-on-one all the time, he won't win championships. Period.

The staff has seen Summers play. 3 and Broadus love him. He is more of a perimeter player, even though he's 6'8 225. He's high major.

6 foot 8,? hmm! Well, we do need some height. But more in the paint than on the perimeter. But hey, who knows.

Since when did he ever have an offensive game plan. Maybe, eh, 1985. I wouldn't say 1987 because it was Reggie and the Miracles then. Basically it was, make sure Reggie gets the ball, and you 4 other guys get out of the way. Or maybe it was in the 1996 Big East Tournament final when we "choked" after having a good lead over UCONN in the final minutes.
