Given that there are a couple of posts commenting on the lack of participation / donations to the HHC, (where did the 3000 petitioners go / HHC donations down) I wonder if Admin/DFW could tell us if he's ever been contacted by the HHC to leverage the momentum created by this board and Hoyasaxa.com.
Given that these two sites are the primary gathering-places for Hoya fans from around the world, just curious if it has ever dawned on the HHC to maximize DFW's traction, capitalize on possible synergies, and foment a grassroots/guerilla campaign (a la firefox) to come up with creative ways to raise money, spread the word, etc, especially with the alumns.
(yes, I've used as many marketing buzzwords as possible, but the question is a serious one)

This site is supportive of the Hoop Club and I've regularly included a link to their events.
When the new athletics web site is up and running, I'm sure there will be an increased visibility of the Hoop Club to its constituency.

agree with both i think we all can think of the hoop club like the good deal parrt... in addtion to helping the hoyas bball be donating with like facilities equipment etc you get a great deal at fun stuff eg. if your a member and members only you get to go to the in season brunch a 40 deal at the accela club before the nd game for only 10 bucks you and your quest or family and help honor the team that held pistol pete to lowest point total ever and all that for a minimum donation of 25 ... now i know im not a math major but 25 plus 10 is 35 thats less than the cost of the brunch ... and a larger donation helps even more to help the bball program soooooooo by donating and becoming a member you help the program and make money daaaa its a no brainer for any hoya go hoyas join the hoop club... beat nova and beat nd ps we gotta have more gufans than nd at the game this year

Let me be a little more direct and borrow liberally from a private message I sent DanMcQ.
There is such a collection of skilled, dedicated, passionate fans on this site. The T-shirts and the rally are just two examples of what can be done when these passions are harvested and channelled in the right direction. Just think about the impact of the two aforementioned projects - those were possible and realized because of this forum.
Every marketer seeks to make a connection with their product's evangelists - those people that live, breathe the product. The people on this board are the evangelists for Hoya Basketball. I think the HHC/SID/Athletic Dept. should invest some time in leveraging this amazing resource.
With guidance from the HHC/SID/Athletic Dept. couldn't a lot more be done?

Well, leadership would be a good start. At this time, McDonough lacks a Director of Athletics in the truest sense of the term, and the so-called search for AD Lang's replacement has not apparently turned up anything as of yet.
Next, I think there needs to be a fundamental re-definition of everything in McDonough. The current SID sees himself as someone who is in charge of cleaning up messes, whatever they may be. How about a SID who generates publicity and figures out how to get some local and national interest in the sports programs? Let alone someone who can get this new website off the ground...
Next, there needs to be a slight change in expectations. Good scholarship and citizenship should be a given, not an expectation. I don't think some former GU employees fully understood that, with the result that coaches were praised or praised themselves if people graduated rather than if they won games.
Incidentally, many in McDonough know about this site. Their apparent lack of willingness to make use of it speaks volumes.

I think the adminstration would rather the AD, HHC not campaign for funds, period.
I'm not saying they don't want basketball to do well, I just think they'd rather we give to the business school building or science building, or the current athletics projects.
They've prioritized because basketball can function with the current funding.
I, of course, disagree, which is why everything I've ever given them has gone to the HHC.

Another thing we should probably put together in July is a grassroots effort to raise money for the HHC. This has to be done delicately and carefully, but I would think that there is no harm in sending a letter out across the country from a group of fans on this site to other GU alumni that suggests people join the HHC or get involved in other ways (buying season tickets, supporting HB, or whatever we can identify).

That's what I'm talking about! But it takes some effort, resources, and integration with/from the HHC. How do we institutionalize the ties between the HHC and this community (if DFW is amenable) to tap into the brainpower and passion.

How do we institutionalize the ties between the HHC and this community (if DFW is amenable) to tap into the brainpower and passion. I remember brainstorming with YB et al. over the summer about forming a grassroots website to channel some of the online enthusiasm toward support for the HHC etc., and I remember DFW mentioning issues with transparency, NCAA regulations, etc. that preclude such a formal, institutionalized effort. At the very least, I'd hope we could get HHC members and leaders to come on board here for brainstorming and discussion of ways to improve fan support and support for the HHC. Failing this, we can do what we must on our own.
