A strange quote on Marquette recruit Niv Berkowitz. Almost reads like the Marquette recruiter indirectly used Georgetown to sell Marquette: "[Marquette assistant Jeff] Strohm learned of Niv last summer... the coach contacted the Berkowitzes, who were in Washington, DC, and requested that they visit Georgetown University. "[Strohm] said not to pick any college yet, because he wanted to talk with us," Niv recalled. Strohm flew to Israel to meet with the family, and quickly sold them on Marquette's new sports facilities, the university's academic reputation and the coaches' commitment to "make each player the best he can be," Niv said." www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/526555.html

Yeah, Niv THOUGHT G'town made players better, but then that damn Tony Bethel flew home and scared him away!
Seriously though, this is the second article I've read about him now and I'm dying to see the "second coming of Pistol Pete."

You think he had them visit Gtown because he would see how woeful our facilities are and then compare them with Marquette's brand spanking new Al McGuire Center?
He wouldn't have sent him there to see something good about Gtown, unless he knew that Gtown had no interest whatsoever in the guy.
And it certainly wasn't to see how beautiful Healy Lawn and our campus is, then to compare it with Marquette's, sandwiched between Jeffrey Dahmer's old house and a hideous freeway interchange on the verge of being deconstructed (named "the Marquette interchange"). (My dad would kill me for writing stuff like this).

It probably didn't happen that way, but the report sure sounded like that: "Visit Georgetown first, then we'll talk about Marquette." It didn't sound like Berkowitz had ever seen the place.
And for all the healthy debate about McDonough as a place to play some home games, the fact is that it's not even a competitive practice facility a la the Al McGuire Center at Marquette or DePaul's Athletic Center.
