I am a big college baseball fan in general, but obviously especially concerning my Gators. I haven't missed a game yet this season including the one road game.
In any case, I don't know much about you guys. I caught the score in the paper this morning that you lost 13-1 to Northeastern. That certainly doesn't sound very good but I don't know much about them either.
What are the expectations for this season? What conference are you in for baseball. I know there isn't, or at least wasn't a BE baseball conference. That is why Miami was always an indepndent and also why they always played 45 games within 50 miles of their campus. Not surprisingly they always had a successful program as well.
In any case, are you expected to make any noise this year on the diamond?

We've been in the Big East since 1985...Best ever league record 12-6 in 1986.

In 2003 (?), a guy from VA Tech hit for the cycle against us. That may not sound too bad, until you consider that it was a home run cycle--the guy hit a solo shot, a 2 run, a three run and a grand slam. And he added another 2 run shot on to boot.

Georgetown's baseball team has not posted a winning record since 1986 and that is directly attributable to its scholarship issue. For most of the last two decades, Georgetown competed as a non-scholarship team in a scholarship league with predictable results.
To its credit, the team and the University is committing to increase scholarship support and the future for the Hoyas is brighter than it's been in a long time.

Thanks for the info. I always thought that there wasn't a BE baseball conference for some reaoson. I guess it just wasn't financially practical for Miami to play in it for anyone. There would be way too much travel expenses for everyone involved.
That V Tech player sure had quite a day -- five dingers including a grand slaw. Wow!
FSU had a player a few years back name Marshall McDougal who hit 7 homers in one game. I couldn't believe that when I first saw that. The worst part is that he went to high school here in Gainesville but we didn't recruit him. Andy Lopez was too busy recruiting his pet projects in California, mostly unsuccessfully.

Wow, competing totally as a non-scholarship sport is tough. But don't get me started on the general scholarship issue on baseball. For those who don't know, baseball gets 11.7 scholarships to divide amongst the entire roster. A full ride is basically non-existent. So in addition to having to compete against a professional minor league system, which essentially doesn't exist in football and basketball, college baseball programs have to convince prospective student athletes to spend their own money as well. Title IX can kiss my a$$.

Miami stayed independent all those years so they could play 80-90% of their games at home. This bit them in the butt early in ACC play when they started having to travel so much and started losing.

Right you are Tiger. We always got kind of ticked off about that. Don't get me wrong; they had a good program, but they had too many built in advantages. We play in by far the toughest baseball conference in the SEC, in addition to playing FSU and Miami every year while Miami would play a decent opponent or two here and there, but mostly at home. Rarely would they venture very far.
I remember the last year before they started in the ACC, they left the state only ONCE ALL YEAR during the regular season. They played a 3 game series at Georgia Tech. The next farthest they went was to Tallahassee for 3. After that I think they played at UCF. Aside from those few games, they never played more than an hour away from home. They had almost a guaranteed formula to have a high ranking and therefore host a regional at least. In more times than not, they would also host a Super Regional as well. THankfully they now have to earn that right.
