I just send the following in an email to some family members - thought you all might be interested. Perhaps some hypberbole... but not far from the truth, I don't think.
1. JT3 should be considered a deity, or at a minimum, the second coming of Christ. The way he is able to show visible improvement with this young team is a miracle in every sense. They are fun to watch, have an offense and they no longer run "one fist" or "two-fist." Those plays have been completely forbidden from the game. Finally, we've won an overtime game and a few close games. This never happened under Esherick.
2. Hibbs needs work. No question. However, he will be great. He turned 18 two weeks ago and has shown great athleticism. He is not an inside presence as he has not yet grown into his body yet. Nevertheless, once he realizes he is 7-2 (doctor's say he will be 7-5 or 7-6) and plays like it, he will be a force.
3. Jeff Green is the best player Georgetown has had in a long time. He has better upside that Sweets. He dominated Rudy Gay the other night. Last night, against Rutgers, he dominated Bailey. He is already a menace on the defensive end (possibly 2 of the greatest blocks I have even seen last night). He also has a solid inside presence on offense. His intensity is
unmatched. He can also shoot the 3 pretty well.
4. Ray Reed could break out soon. He is on the verge of becoming a team player and realizing the virtues of passing the ball and creating. Few players are quicker than he is in the collegiate game. Baby Iverson might
learn to pass and become a threat.
5. Our team rests upon the shoulders of John Wallace. He will be great with Sapp next year. Wallace currently leads the Big East in 3pt FG Percentage and is an intelligent player. He knows when to pull the ball out on the fast break and control tempo. Lessons Esherick was never able to teach anyone. When he is hot from 3, the team cannot be stopped.
6. This is a team, right now, that out of the Big East, has NCAA tourney potential. The BE is a total toss up. If the ball bounces the right way, we could win the whole thing. We beat Pitt impressively. We dominated UConn in the 2nd half. We played with Illinois for the 1st half. If we start putting entire games together, everyone will take notice.
7. The student section has been sold out for every game this year when the students are in session. That was impressive. What was more impressive, is that last night against Rutgers, the student section was overflowing - many student's came back early before classes started to watch their Hoyas put it on Rutgers. The campus is rallying around this team. They are fun to
watch again.
8. Bowman is still nasty. I just wish he would attack the rim and not be afraid of contact. He can also shoot the 3 or give you a nasty dunk. Great player.
I'll be riding up to Philly to watch the game. While I
might shed a tear as the Wildcats honor their 1985 NCAA Champion team at the half and show clips of the game, we're going to show everyone that this Hoya team is legit. We will definitely finish above .500 this year. We have a shot at the NCAA's and we are a lock for the NIT. Hoya ball isn't back all the way but this is a recovery I was expecting to take a lot longer to even get to this point.
