I really hope it's the former, but I just don't know. Losing your opening game on your home court to a team like Towson is embarrassing. I don't know how good/bad Towson is, but I think it's sufficient to say that we probably should have beaten them pretty handily. Instead, it was US who got dominated for most of the game. Only positive I can take from the game: the atmosphere was actually pretty decent. 20-25 gray clad students as well as the blue clad band were in attendance after the men's game, and it got pretty loud when the Hoyas made their run in the second half. Unfortunately, there were also a decent number of Towson fans among the 707 in attendance, who made their presence felt as well. Nevetheless, hopefully Hoya Blue can build on this for future women's games - a Dec. 7 date with UConn looms. Marlow continues to be the only real offensive option on this team. Wheeler remains very athletic - she grabbed 17 boards - but she simply can't find the basket. The 6'5" player from Senegal looked decent at times, but our guards missed so many threes and there was no real pentration. It seems like the same old story so far from the women's team, but it's only one game, so hopefully they can start to turn it around.

They were very sloppy. Poor passing and ball handling in general. Shot selection that was poor - far too often settling for a mid to long ranger jumper instead of trying to work the ball inside. Our guards like to shoot the three, but far too often they just threw them up while still moving, and don't take the time to plant their feet and take a good shot; many missed that could have dropped had the shooter been more patient.
I would hope that it was just opening day nerves, but we were badly outplayed on our home court by an opposing team that did not really look that good themselves.

The truly sad part of that game was that there was a much better student contingent than at games last year. Good energy. Poor result on the court.

The truly sad part of that game was that there was a much better student contingent than at games last year. Good energy. Poor result on the court. I feel like there was a good student group there because it followed the Hartford game - hopefully students will keep coming out to support the women's team, cause in the past its been pretty much just the band and a few diehards - a nice loud student section like on Saturday would be great to see. When the game was tied with about a minute to go, there was a good intensity level with the students and the band... hopefully that can continue as the season goes on.
