I was reading this month's issue of Inside Lacrosse magazine last week--not a bad read if you're a Hoya fan btw, we've got the #1 incoming recruiting class according to IL and the #1 and #3 incoming freshmen.
Anyhow, something caught my eye in the article about incoming Hoya lax midfielder and IL's #1 recruit Andrew Brancaccio. Couldn't find a link so I photocopied the article. There a little facilities discussion here:
"...Brancaccio choosing Georgetown continues an upswing in the program's fortunes. In addition to a new full-time field this year and an upcoming facility improvement (2008) that will include weight rooms, film rooms, locker rooms, and coaches offices..."
I guess I'm not as up to speed on my GU Athletic Facility Improvement timelines as I should be. What project are the above facility improvements part of? Are they a stand-alone project? Are they related to the MSF? Plans for the future of McDonough? And how did 2008 become the magic year?
Anybody know? And can Andrew really step into the midfield and the man-up unit right away? ;D

My guess is that this is related to future phases of the MSF. When the "stadium" part actually gets built, it is supposed to include the aforementioned weight rooms, film rooms, locker rooms, coaches' offices, etc. Which is great, especially considering the varsity weight room is currently a sectioned-off portion of Yates. Not exactly state of the art, and it also takes away space in an already crowded gym.
If they can make these upgrades by 2008, I'd say that's a good thing. If it takes later than that... well then, I really just don't know.

I hope its 2008. Although the fact that its nearly 2007 and there appears to be no inertia or mention of the project directly is concerning. Should be interesting to see what happens now that the home football games are over.

Well yeah gosh I hope they get it done by 2008. I was kinda wondering if IL talked to Coach Urick or maybe Bernard Muir and got that info, or if they looked at a prospectus somewhere on the web that said that. Fingers crossed I guess.

If it's 2008, it's a closely guarded secret.
More likely is Bernard Muir's quote to The HOYA: "As far as a timetable, I can’t give you one, but our student body should realize that's something we're working towards."

Ohhh yeah. The other top-rated kid we stole from Duke. Good times. EDIT: Looks like Chris Dowd stuck with Duke after all. It's going to be a lot of fun watching our 6'5-6'5-6'5 midfield line of all top 10 recruits the next few years with Braccacio, Kocis and jr. Scott Kahoe. Braccacio won the C Markland Kelly Award for best player in MD, which is doubly amazing because that award has never left the powerful Baltimore MIAA conference before in its history. Bill Gladding of the defending champs, UVA, didn't even win it while he was at Prep the year before (and that kid certainly was no slouch), nor his graduated teammate Matt Ward while at Landon, nor any of the other great IAC players. Sophomore Brennan Kelly won it while at McDonough in 2005. Can't wait to see him finally play this year, too. I'm almost as pumped for the lacrosse season as I am basketball this year.

Craig Dowd is still coming. He won't enroll until January.

Hate to be labeled a "buzzkill" twice in one day, but it is my understanding that, due to other financial priorities in McDonough, fundraising for the MSF is on hold. I highly doubt the "stadium" will be built by '08, let alone by the time Brancacchio graduates from GU. Along the same line, if I know Coach U, he did not promise a stadium during his recruiting of AB. In fact, he likely laid the truth out there for AB to mull over. That truth is: we have a TERRIFIC program, TERRIFIC coaching staff, and IMPROVED (but still FAR behind other elite universities) facilities. I would guess it ends there.

On hold? So will they be refunding those millions they collected for MSF gifts, then???

I'm pretty sure that the vast majority of the "millions" that have been collected went into the renovation of the field, south wall, infrastructure work that was in phase one.
Hopefully the pace will pick up in terms of both fundraising and construction of the stadium part, but it's not like there's 10 or 20 mil just sitting around in an MSF doing nothing right now.

Are there other explanations for the total lack of work on MSF since the end of last lacrosse season other than a lack of funds?

I'm pretty sure that the vast majority of the "millions" that have been collected went into the renovation of the field, south wall, infrastructure work that was in phase one. The amount authorized by the Board of Directors for Phase I of the unnamed MSF ($1.4 million) was a fraction of the amount raised to date. www.thehoya.com/news/082605/news4.cfm

That article simply states the cost of the actual field was $1.4 million and does not reveal the true costs associated with the construction of the south wall or the infrastructure that was put into place -- additionally, was the straightening of the road part of the associated costs? And I believe it was stated some time last year that the next phase would not commence until the full funding of the MSF was raised from donors.

Roads and infrastructure work was part of the business school project. My only point is that the $10M+ raised wasn't about buying a field and a wall.

Can't really tell you too much about the new project or anything, but I can tell you about our lacrosse team and bronco.
Right now, we are ranked #6 in the Nation by Inside Lacrosse, also, many people have been including us in their Final Four predictions (along with UVA, JHU, and 'Cuse or Duke).
Bronco can and probably will definately step in to the midfield and man-up unit. He already has the size (6'4"-6'5" and i think his weight is between 185-215) and he has a great outside shot with lots of accuracy and speed. He is a good shooter off the turn and will definately help our team greatly. He will be in the starting man-up unit and probably in the second or third midfield.
The only concern is his health, he was out the majority of his Junior season in HS and for parts of his Senior season. But then again, if you look at that, it can show you how good he truely is, since he won the Kelly Award (a huge honor) while rarely playing Junior year (the games that he did he contributed huge) and while missing parts of Senior year.
Personally, I have high hopes for this team, and for the team for the next couple of years (it seems like our lax team and basketball team are both on the same track when it comes to recruiting)

When I was recruited by the football staff, I was told a new stadium would likely be up in a few years and then the subject was changed rather quickly. That was 1995. Does anyone know why they stopped actively raising funds for this project? Well, IIRC, they did not even have all fundraising positions in McD filled last year. A quick look at the staff directory on GUHoyas shows that one position is unfilled, and the other two names aren't exactly familiar.

It would be nice if they would start a push to get funding rolling again instead of putting things on hold (and, I presume, diverting the interest to other things).
What does happen with the money pledged so far? Is the ADep't investing it? Please tell me they're using someone other than the folks that managed the endowment during the 1995-2005 period.
