not for men's basketball, but another sport at Georgetown. While this isn't technically for this board, I think it deserves some attention and can go a long way in showing how supportive fans should be regardless of the circumstances, not just when the team is ranked in the Top 10 in the country. www.thehoya.com/sports/102406/sports9.cfm

Haha, 007 I posted this on the Hoya Blue board. We'll see which one gets locked.
Great article, nonetheless.

Get Matt Hare to work on the basketball cheer sheet. I like his style.

Great article. I really like the line "The hooligans help you score".

So British Matt is the kid who leads the Sex cheer now?
Glad to see someone took over for me, because it is definately my favorite cheer from high school, though it's kind of awkward at the womens' games.

I posted this on the thread on the Hoya Blue board-- but- to answer TBird... British Matt doesnt lead the Sex cheer. "Flag Carrying" Matt usually gets that one going. He also gets credit for a solo rendition of "you dirty little bastard" targeted at the 6 or 7 year old Marquette fan who was harassing the Hoya Blue section on Saturday.

Great publicity, and thanks to all who came out to soccer this year to show their support.

Although actually a hockey cheer, it works well with soccer too. I guess I could call also call myself the unofficial abmbassador for the "Si, Se Puede" cheer, although usually not enough people know Spanish to do it. SoCalHoya85 generally starts "Ole, Ole, Ole." As for the Homecourt Homecoming article, I think it's a topic for another thread, but I'll say that I'm pretty much against it. Too much work with the tailgate being on-campus and the game being downtown. Plus, Homecoming is almost universally oriented around a football game, and our football team needs more support as it is.

Credit in that article is given where it is due Keszler and British Matt have done a great job and been huge assets to Hoya Blue. I don't know how much of the singing and chants will work in basketball season, it requires a huge amount of coordination that doesn't really apply itself to larger crowds. Hopefully we can take some things so the cheers aren't so repetitive.
Great article.

it requires a huge amount of coordination that doesn't really apply itself to larger crowds. Great article. Well, American crowds at least. In Europe and other parts of the world, huge crowds are able to sing extensive songs at athletic events. While most of this stuff probably wouldn't work at basketball games with all the casual fans, Im sure theres some stuff we can translate to Verizon Center.

Although actually a hockey cheer, it works well with soccer too. I know it was actually a hockey cheer--it was a staple at my high school's hockey games. And I knew it would work well for soccer (and for football, when they get in the red zone and you have a stoppage of play), which is why I introduced it last year. It also can be used for lacrosse, or as I like to call it "Hockey on Grass".

Good on ya- singing a song is actually easier than chanting something- if you know the tune, it almost doesn't matter if you know the words. American crowds have never really caught on, but it can be pretty powerful stuff.

One of the things that I discussed with Brittish Matt at the Syracuse game was the cultural phenomenon that Brittish fans sing and American fans chant - some of it has to do with the rhythm of the games.

I remember my grandfather teaching me and my brothers the words to "You'll never walk alone" so we could sing along to Liverpool games.

We should really learn the words to that song and sing it because the Soccer team has a big banner reading: G.U. Soccer You'll Never Walk Alone. It's been passed on to members of the senior class of the soccer team for years. It'd be cool if we sang it at games.
