Oh wait, my final point. The statistics about posters who haven't returned isn't necessarily a reflection of loss of interest in the program. I think that underestimates the effect of the change in medium from the old HoyaTalk board to this funky new format. The mere fact of registration was probably too much for some. The inability to see which threads are permeated by wise posters vs. space-fillers has also proved to be a major downside. I think we lost some people in the transition. Doseofreality comes to mind. Dose is registered here and actually posted once or twice early on. He'd had enough by the middle of last year and was dissatisfied that anything was ever going to change on the administrative level and basically declared that his support was going to go elsewhere (his law alma mater Michigan?). He's one of the people DFW is probably referring to when he mentioned those who "threw up their hands" and went elsewhere. I don't read sour grapes into DFW's comment. I think he is disappointed that it seems like many of the "3000" may well have been hit and run. It would be far more important and meaningful if the majority of the 3000 backed their signatures up by joining the HHC or contributing something more tangible to the program. Number of posters / posts here is not a valid measure of support for the program.

I don't necessarily think that the 3000 should have joined the HHC prior to the firing of Esherick. In my estimation, that would not have been a wise investment given his recruiting technique (see Aaron Pettway and Shan Foster). However, this is the time for them to join if they haven't already done so because JT3 is bringing a direction to the program in terms of winning games, which is a goal that Esherick, by his own words, devalued.
I don't know what degree of participation we have from the 3000 petitioners. Many of them are students, and I can say unequivocally that student support is up dramatically this season as compared to seasons past. Now, these folks probably aren't members of the HHC, but $85 for season tickets in some cases and $8 per game for others isn't bad considering many high major schools allows students to get in for free.
