Big game for Georgetown, a win, however unlikely, would be enourmous.
Four minutes in (according to GameTracker) game is scoreless...Devine started in net for the Hoyas.

Ended up being a poor game for the Hoyas, as they lost 4 - 1. Only bright spot was that Ricky Schramm scored his ninth goal of the season. Devine did start in goal; as I was not at the game, I don't know whether its fair to attribute the 4 goals to poor goalkeeping or poor defense, although it looks like the defense didn't do too well as they gave up 15 shots. Overall, bad day for Hoya sports.

The report i'm hearing was 2 of the goals should not have happened. Even from the game report it seems obvious the third goal was devine's fault as a ND player blocked his clearance and then knocked the ball into the open net.
It Appears that Coach Wiese has completely given up on this season and is focusing on next year. He appears to be attempting to get devine time in net to benifit him next year. It has become obvious devine currently isn't the best option but wiese continues to play him. It's really sad to see this happen. The year is far for over. It is still possible to make the big east tournament and make some there noise. It's sad the team has to suffer because the coach is looking ahead. Yes i have no proof that this is the caoches motivation but it seems the only logical conclusion after devine's performance in his last three starts in which each goals were scored that were his fault. His lack of organizing the defense has also hurt the team. He's a great kid and it's not his fault coach keeps putting him in but it's really sad that coach for some reason or other is playing him when he has better options.
However i was told before the game started that keszler would be playing vs. Lafayette. I also assume he will play vs. Marquette on senior day. As to who will play against West Virginia or Pittsburg.

I don't think starting an unexperienced goalie signifies that the coach has given up on the season. Many people overemphasize the importance of the goalie in the game, as seen in the fact that if a team has a really good defense, the goalie plays almost no role. I see the goalie as no more important than the rest of the players on the field.

It was also posted on this board before Notre Damethat Keszler would start "the rest of the season" , so I suggest we all hold off on speculating re: personel decisions and instead just let the season play out.
I think this whole discussion brings up a bigger question about college athletics: should Wiese be loyal to a guy (Keszler) who was rock solid in net for 2+ years and has the potential to return to that form, hoping that maybe the Hoyas make a late season push for the league tournament, OR should Wiese play for next year and be more concerned about building a program than he is about building the 2006 team.
I don't really know what the answer to that question is, but I think its an interesting one to consider.

Yes but before it was speculation i was actually told that keszler would play the lafayette game. Obviously the coach could change his mind but, i'm just reporting what i heard. And why would we not speculate that's one of the points of a talkboard is to speculate about the season.
As to the importance of a goalie i think it's reallyl important but i also was a goalie so maybe i have an over inflated sense of my own importance. But the goalie is key to a sucessful team. He is supposed to organzie the defense ( somehting devine doesn't do it's completely silent when he's in goal). Lots of times games are won and loss by the keeper. yes if the defnese does it's job the goalie shouldn't have to do anything but those times the offense does break through the goalie has to save the day. He's the last line of denfense and starts the offense with distrbutions. He's essential for the defense to play well.
And just personally i feel like you play each season as hard as you can to the end trying to win if you can. There's a spring season and preseason scrimages to prepare the team for the next year. I really don't think it's fair to the seniors who have done so much for this team to not give them the best chance to finish out the season competitively.
It'd be like if you were working on getting a client and your boss said we don't have a shot at this client so i'm goign to give him to this less qualified person so he can get some practice even if you felt like you really had a chance at getting the client. shouldn't you always use your best guy to try and get the job done. at least then you have a chance.
