My former team is going through some big changes. Should be very interesting in a few seasons. www.sportsline.com/tennis/story/9662700New coach, new players, new attitude. I feel for the guys that got let go but it's no different in any other sport when a new coach comes in. There's going to be some collateral damage. The two american kids that Coach Ernst is bringing in, Lowell and Tillem, have top 80 national rankings. That makes these guys among the best GU recruits in about a decade (we were good in the late 80's early 90's). The other kid, Anthony Tan is Coach Ernst's Dikembe Mutumbo. He's sandbagging by not bringing him up. This kid has EXTENSIVE international experience. Wins over #15, #87, #352 and #485 Losses to #88, #141, #157 ITF junior world rankings players. Just to give you an idea of what that means, Sean Corrigan, Notre Dame's top american recruit has a national ranking of 36 and a world junior ranking of 434. This kid might very well be a top 25 type recruit. What's going on with the tennis program looks alot like what's going on with the women's volleyball team. The beefed up schedule includes the Bolletieri Invitational against powerhouses Illinois, Duke and Texas (all top 10 teams) We'll get beat up, that's for sure, but it looks like we're taking a step in the right direction.
