Volleyball season is starting soon if it hasn't already. UF has their first match tonight. Georgetown has hired two coaches from the UF program which has been top notch for the past decade. The coach who taught and coached both of your coaches has led UF to 7 Final Four appearances in 16 years.
I really expect your program to be on the rise. Protege's of Mary Wise have a track record of becoming succesful coaches on their own right.
The point is for any of you who haven't gone to a college volleyball match you should really give it a shot. It is very entertaining and very fast moving as well. They play best 3 of 5 games for the match. Since UF is routinely a lot better than their opponent, the majority of UF matches end in 3 games, usually taking about an hour or so. It really is a good time and I would suggest it to any.

In high school, we went to a lot of women's volleyball matches. Southern California + Tall and athletic + spandex...

Hifi, congrats on making a worthwhile post. I saw the hires before and i think that the team can take a big step forward within the next couple of years. They've already picked up three Florida recruits in the past two years including the Florida 5A Player of the Year.

I still think it's bogus that they changed the rules so you can score without being the team with the serve.

I still think it's bogus that they changed the rules so you can score without being the team with the serve. I felt that same way at first. I mean that is how I learned the game. The side out was a major part of the game. Supposedly they went to "rally scoring" to speed up the game. Ironically it forever changed the game with regard to records. Stats like "kills," "digs," and "blocks" are likely to not ever be touched. With two competitive teams of similar level it wasn't unusual to see ten or twelve side outs in a row. So that was 10 or 12 chances for a block or a kill without anyone so much as scoring one point. Now they do play the games to 30 points instead of 15 so that has helped offset that to a degree but I would doubt it does entirely. I remember some marathon matches in the early 80's that must have lasted 4 hours. There are just simply more points played so more chances to make a play.

There are no more side-outs in volleyball??? Sounds like a picnic/bbq game, not an intercollegiate sport.
SF, my first beat for The Hoya was women's volleyball and I wish the team had more Southern California natives.

The team has had a bunch of Californians in recent years, and one, Sara Albert ('05) from Davis, CA was in the final 3 (or 4) in the last season of America's Next Top Model. www.realitytvworld.com/realitytvdb/sara-albert/person-660You were just a couple years early, Gold. In other news, the Hoyas beat GMU this morning, to even their record at 1-1 tonight, with a game against American tonight.

I can't speak for your ladies, but the majority of ours are rather pleasing to the eye.
