In Eugene tomorrow. The glamour event is the mile. Our own Chris Lukezic (anybody knows if he graduated this year?) will be in the field, which on paper looks as if it is the deepest field outside an Olympics in the US:
Bernard Lagat Rachid Ramzi (Bahrain) Alex Kipchirchir (Kenya) Alan Webb Daniel K. Komen (Kenya) Jason Lunn Elkanah Angwenyi (Kenya) Rob Myers Chris Lukezic Jon Rankin Ming Gu (China) Mo Farah (Great Britain) Lagat, a former Kenyan, is now American record holder. Ramzi is the world champion and probably the best miler in the world today on the retirement of El G. Chris should get some good experience in this race. Alan Webb is probably not going to be a major factor in this race, since he has been doing over distance and ran a great 10000m recently, so I doubt he has the leg speed this early in the season to keep up with these guys.

In the women's race GU grad Treniere Clement, who is the US best in the 1500m, is entered in a good field:

Lukezic was first american in 3:54.4--I guess a pr for him, I'm not sure. Treniere Clement was also the first american woman in the 1500--pretty good advertisment for GTWN track

Indeed, first American and a bigPR for him in the mile. He left his trainging partner in his dust (Alan Webb). As I said Webb does not have the speed right now to keep up with these guys. And TC did very well too - INDEED a good ad for GU track.

I found it very annoying that the annoucers couldn't find a moment to mention that Chris was A) in the race B) running great C) smoking Alan Webb and D) ran a better mile than any American other than Lagat ran in all of 2005 or 2006. I mean, it was an exciting race, but with all the talk about developing American track, it would be nice if an American running a PR against a world class field (although he has run 1500s in this range, I believe) could get a nod of recognition now and then. End rant.
Congrats to Chris and Treniere on great performances. Nevada, you know these things, what the heck happened to Jesse O'Connell? I knew him pretty well at GU so I took a little interest in his career, but he has dropped off the track map, so far as I can tell.
