THis still hasn't been announced on GUHoyas.com yet but they put it in Soccer america a couple days ago so i figure I'll put it up.
GEORGETOWN Leonard Coleman D Basking Ridge, NJ PDA Cantona Justin Kondos F Odenton, MD Casa Mia's Bays Scott Larrabee M Palos Verdes Estates, CA South Bay SC Brian Mascarenhas M Marietta, GA (Vanderbilt) Conor Neusel M Chesterfield, MO (Vanderbilt) Mark Zeman M Western Springs, IL Chicago Magic
I don't know much about them yet but I do know that Mascarenhas was a compelte stud at Vanderbilt and is probably the biggest pick up. Vanderbilt discontinued their mens soccer program and we were very lucky to pick this kid up. I'll post more when i find out more about the recruits. But it looks like it's going to be a great season next year. With a new coach and this new crop of players look for the hoyas to make it back into the NCAA's this year.

2 questions: One, does them dropping the program mean that those players don't have to wait a year to play? and two, I've heard the name Larrabee before, did an older brother or sister play here?

Vandy players are eligible immediately. Don't know anything about Larrabee- outside of the transfers, all of these guys were recruited by Keith T.

I believe that only basketball and football players have to sit out a year for a transfer. There may be other sports, too, but most don't actually require a redshirt year (something I just learned this year). For instance, women's lacrosse junior goalie Maggie Koch played her freshman season at Drexel, but transferred here and was eligible both last season and this year.

Vandy discontinued their soccer program??? Whose coaching staff are we going to get to take cards now?

Um we got Villinova's coaching staff a card this past season not Vandy's. Which was one of the best moments of the past year. That was by far the best home game of the season.

It's mistakes like that that cost you the Crystal City Dorm Captain position.

Segner admitted to me that he had no idea where Crystal City/Arlington were and hence thought I had moved to southern VA. In addition, the position will be mine.

Vandy dropping soccer was probably a no-brainer with there being no SEC for soccer.
SC is C-USA now.

Gu Hoyas finally decided to announce the recruitign class we've known about for over a month any way here's what they had to say: Washington, D.C - Georgetown University head men's soccer coach Brian Wiese announced today that six student-athletes have signed on to join the Hoya program in the Fall of 2006.
"My staff and I are thrilled with our incoming group," said Wiese "It is an extremely well balanced group and they are all capable of contributing right away. We're fortunate to have two transfers that should be able to contribute right away to help us succeed this fall."
Len Coleman (Basking Ridge, N.J. / The Pingry School) is a 6-4, 205-pound defender who played his prep ball at The Pingry School for coach Miller Bugliari. Coleman was an integral part of three consecutive Colonial Conference Championships in 2003-05 and two Somerset County Championships. In 2004, Pingry was named Team of the Year by the Star-Ledger. As a senior in 2005, Coleman was named Colonial Conference Player of the Year in addition to being named First Team All-State (AP Newspaper) and First Team All-Area by Courier News after scoring 19 goals to go along with 12 assists for a team that posted a 16-1-1 overall record. As a junior, Coleman was named Star Ledger All-County and Courier News All-Area.
Coleman was a member of the PDA Cantona Club team for coach Sam Nellins. PDA Cantona won four straight New Jersey State Cup Championship (2003-06) and Coleman was named State Cup MVP in 2005.
"Len is a big time athlete and should compete for a starting spot across the back right away," added Wiese. "His high school coach, Miller Bugliari, has been around the block a few times and thinks that Coleman is as good as there is and we certainly agree."
Justin Kondos (Odenton, Md. / Arundel) concluded his high school career with 26 goals and 20 assists for Arundel HS. Kondos was named 2005 Maryland All-State First Team after leading the team and the county in points (35), goals (13) and assists (9). The 6-4, 185-pound forward earned Washington Post All-Met First Team in 2005 and garnered Washington Post and Baltimore Sun Anne Arundel County Player of the Year accolades. He was a two-time Anne Arundel County Coaches All-County First Teamer in 2004 and 2005 and was a member of the 2005 U-17 Olympic Development Program Team.
"Justin is a big tough forward that gives us a target up front," Wiese said. "He gets his head on scoring opportunities and should give us an added dimension to our attack during his time at Georgetown."
Scott Larrabee (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif. / Loyola HS of Los Angeles) is a four-year letterwinning midfielder for Loyola. Larrabee recorded 15 goals and 20 assists in 2006 to lead the Cubs to their third consecutive championship match and was named Los Angeles Times First Team. Larrabee stands at 5-11 and was named All-Mission League First Team and to the Elite 300 Camp All Star in 2005. As a senior, Larrabee earned South High School Classic First Team accolades and First Team West Coast High School Classic. Larrabee was also named Southern California Soccer Coaches Association Division II Boys Offensive Player of the Year.
"Scott has flown a bit under the radar but we think he is a key addition to the program," remarked Wiese. "He can play out wide and has good ability with both feet. His versatility is a huge asset."
Brian Mascarenhas (Marietta, Ga. / Marist / Edison Acad.) is a transfer from Vanderbilt who will have three years of eligibility remaining. Mascarenhas is a 5-10 midfielder who was a 2004 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-American and a McDonald's All American after playing for Edison Academy (Bradenton, Fla.). In 2005 during his rookie campaign at Vandy, Mascarenhas was named All-Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Second Team and earned a spot on the MVC All-Freshmen Team.
He was one of two MVC first year players to earn all-conference accolades. Mascarenhas has played on the United States U-16 and U-17 National Teams and played for Chivas, Atlas, AC Milan and Fulham on the European Club circuit.
"Brian has an incredible amount of experience under his belt for someone his age," Wiese said. "He has the potential to come into the midfield as a starter right away and make a big impact."
Conor Neusel (Chesterfield, Mo. / Christian Bros. College HS) is also a transfer from Vanderbilt and will have three years of collegiate eligibility remaining. He notched three points on a goal and an assist during his rookie campaign and played in 17 of the team's 18 games at Vandy as a midfielder helping the Commodores to a 9-7-2 overall record. At Christian Brothers College High School in 2004, Neusel was named First Team All-State, Second Team All-Metro, and First Team All-Conference and helped lead the team to the Class 3A State Championship. Neusel also helped lead the Scott Gallagher U-17 Soccer Club to three straight championships in 2002-04 while also being named to the 2004 adidas Top 25 High School team.
"Conor is an attacking player that will give us needed options at a number of different positions," said Wiese. "Both he and Brian (Mascarenhas) have handled their difficult situation at Vanderbilt (elimination of the program) with class and maturity and we're thrilled to have both of them here at Georgetown."
Mark Zeman (Western Springs, Ill. / Lyons Twp.) is a 5-10 midfielder who was named Chicago Sun Times Player of the Year and Chicago Sun Times First Team in 2005 after leading Lyons Township to the Illinois State High School Quarterfinals as a senior. Zeman, who was named Team MVP in '05, also garnered Chicago Tribune First Team and Illinois All-State accolades in 2005. Zeman also played for John Hannan with the Chicago Magic Soccer Club for six years."Mark is a tough competitor that has great versatility," Wiese added. "He can play as a holding midfielder or anywhere across the back and his work ethic will see him vying for minutes right away."

Mascarenhas is a huge pick up. where he would end up was greatly debated on soccer boards. Its also nice to see we're recruiting from all the major hot beds of talent NY/NJ, Local, chicago, Cali. These have been where we've gotten the majority of our talent over the years.
Expect more great pick ups like Mascarenhas over the years now that the team is fully funded. thank you very much Mr. Muir.

FYI---Mr. Muir has nothing to do with making the decision to fully fund Men's Soccer. It is a Big East mandate, effective 2006-07. His other options were to leave the Big East (we all know that can't happen) or to cut the program (ditto).

I don't think Georgetown fans (much less the rest of the Big East) realizes how far behind Georgetown has lagged on scholarship support vs. the rest of the conference. If Georgetown didn't make a move upward in this regard, there would have likely been some serious discussions between the conference and the school at some point.

There's a slight difference, though, in fully-funding. There are Big East minimums, which are mandated by the conference (and which Georgetown will hit within the next year or two), and then there are NCAA maximums, which would take quite a while longer to hit. I think the latter is Muir's goal, but there is a gap between the two numbers in pretty much all sports (except MBB and WBB).
