I remember a similar thread from last year, and I was going to bump that, but I can't get the search function to work.
Anyway, GU baseball currently sits at 21-25. The Hoyas have one game against UMBC (15-26) tonight in Baltimore, then three three-game series against WVU (29-15), Rutgers (20-20), and @ Pitt (16-21). If the Hoyas are able to go 7-3 over the remaining stretch, Georgetown will finish with an equal number of wins and losses for the first time in a long time. It will be an uphill climb, but the Hoyas have momentum -- they've won 4 of their last 5. Best of luck to the team for the remainder of the 2006 campaign.

Big East is top 8 for the tourney right? (I know there's a cut-off just forgot what it is and the ACC added the top 8 cutoff this year so I don't want to get the 2 confused.)
When was the last time the team made the Big East tourney? That and/or .500 would both be a good way to close the season out.

Ah, and the Hoyas lose to UMBC tonight. Seems every time they take a step foward, they follow it up with a step backward.
Still, at least it wasn't a Big East game. It'll be interesting to see how they close out the season, and it'd be great to see them make it to the Big East tourney. They definitely have a decent opportunity to do that. Those Rutgers games will be huge.

The Hoyas scored two crucial runs in the bottom of the 8th, and Daniel Kennedy shut down the Mountaineers in the 9th, as Georgetown topped WVU 5-4 this afternoon in Bethesda. Sizemore went 8 innings and was credited with the win.
The second game of the double-header should be underway as I type. Will update later.
Other relevant news: Rutgers and Pitt split a double-header. USF is at Ga. Tech this weekend. Villanova split a double-header with Cincy. Louisville topped Notre Dame 5-4. GU is currently tied for 9th in the conference with 'Nova, and is within striking distance of 6th place Louisville, 7th place Rutgers, and 8th place USF.

A BIG win in the nightcap, as Georgetown comes back twice to defeat WVU 7-6.
Hoyas now one-half game behind USF for the 8th and final seed entering Sunday's game.

Actually, should be tied with WVU at 9-11 right now for 8th (and currently in via head-to-head tiebreak).

Actually, we're 1/2 game up on USF and tied w/ WVU for seventh, according to the standings here. Today's game looks to be another close one, currently tied at 6-all in the bottom of the 6th. UPDATE: Tied 8-8 at the start of the 9th. Heart of the order coming up for WVU. Bouchard, Davis, & Baumann are due up for the Hoyas in the bottom half. FINAL: WVU 10, GU 8. A one-on, no-out home run in the top of the 9th off of Mike Hoy did the Hoyas in today. Tough way to lose, but still, great series victory for the team.

I know that after the USF win, it was the first time in about five years that the Hoyas had won two league 3-game series... this makes three, with two more winnable opponents to go... Let's go Hoyas!

Other relevant scores from today:
Louisville 9, ND 6 'Nova 5, Cincy 2 Rutgers 10, Pitt 5
Nothing we wanted to happen did, but we're still in the driver's seat for a BET spot. Conference standings should now look like this:
4: Cincy 11-10 4: Louisville 11-10 6: Rutgers 11-11 7: WVU 10-11 8: GU 9-12 8: USF 9-12 10: Villanova 8-12 11: Pitt 11-13
.500 will be tough to reach at this point. The Hoyas must go 5-1 against RU and Pitt to get there.

GU down 9-3 to RU in our half of the 8th. Hoyas attempting to rally -- the first two men are on base with nobody out. Will update later. Rutgers has scored 9 runs on 12 hits. 3 of those runs were unearned due to 3 GU errors.
Update: After scoring two runs on a Brandon Davis double, the Hoyas loaded the bases with one man out. RU induced a ground ball, got the out at home, and then struck out Timmy Jones to end the inning. Currently 9-5 RU.
FINAL: Rutgers takes the series opener, 9-5.

What do the updated standings look like now as it relates to 8th place?

Rutgers sweeps the series, winning 12-7 on Saturday and 13-1 this afternoon. The #9 Hoyas were one game back of USF entering today's game, so GU will need to do well at Pitt next week and hope the Bulls falter in Morgantown against WVU if it is to make the BET.

8. USF 10-14 9. Georgetown 9-15
Basically, we have to win one more game in Pittsburgh than South Florida does against West Virginia. We have the tiebreaker, so that's the deal.
