Quick question: I know where the current boathouse is located (next to Sequoia's towards the Kennedy Center). What are those two "boathouses" that are off to your left as you cross the Key Bridge into Georgetown? Is the new boathouse supposed to be northwest of those two? Somewhere else?

One of those is Thompson's Boathouse right? and the other one is some club if I remember the articles from the past correctly.

That's what I used to assume, Tiger, but no: Thompson Boathouse is down by Sequoia. Between that and the Kennedy Center.
I'm curious as to the two next to Key Bridge (northwest of it).

Washington Canoe Club might be one, not sure of the other then...

The first one (closest to the bridge) is the Potomac Boat Club, which is rowers - mostly older folks but some younger national team types. Popular and has a waiting list. The second is the Washington Canoe Club (canoes, kayaks), which has led the opposition to the boathouse (they have gotten folks like the Sierra Club to become vocal opponents) and doesn't want the increased traffic (on water and land) of the new boathouse. The site for our boathouse is up river from the Canoe Club just a little bit.

Mookie, Isn't there a national team facility out at Occoquan?
I seem to remember a guy training there who interned the same place as me in the fall of '93.

There aren't any national team facilities that I'm aware of here. Usually the way it works is the guys who are competitive at that level row out of a local boat club until it's time to pick the teams for international events; then they'll have trials and the teams will train together. (The national team facilities are in Colorado Springs where the US Olympic headquarters are, but I know some of the guys who competed together the last few Olympics rowed together out of a Princeton club and out of a Georgia club to get ready for trials.)
The Occoquan has a bunch of high schools rowing on it and plenty of good rowers working out there. The real upside for the community of the GU boathouse is we get our stuff out of Thompson's, meaning more room for the high schools (and GW) and we get our own space (which will be open to the community in some sense, not quite sure how).
