D'Agnes/Finnerty incident should be considered a shot across Georgetown's bow. I certainly hope that Georgetown has learned something from what is happening in Durham and that they take appropriate action to prevent something similar from happening at Georgetown.

How do you prevent something like the Duke incident from happening? We can all agree that it would be awful for it to occur at GU, but just how would go about preventing it? Twenty-four hour chaperones? No parties? Secret Police?
Reality is, something just as despicable has probably happened at GU at some point. It may not have been an athletic team or the lacrosse team in particular, but to think our students are somewhat morally better than Duke's is silly.

I agree completety. You can't prevent this stuff and it could just as easily have happened at Georgetown. However, I would hope a strategy could be implemented to minimize the collateral damage. Anything that would help the university say it did everything it could. In the corporate world organizations are forced the give ethic training, harassment training, etc. to minimize liability. Maybe this is overkill, maybe its not I don't know.
However, we do know the media loves town/gown, privileged vs. underprivleged, etc. stories, and Sh@# happens. This is a risk for our university and I think that it's better for GU to start thinking ahead, (perhaps they already have I don't know) rather than wait for it to end up on CNN.

I feel bad for Georgetown's lacrosse team at this point. It isn't a black eye for the entire team that one of its members got into a fight and was told that if he doesn't get arrested again, he won't face charges. I have friends and siblings who play lacrosse, and it is unfair to group them all as wealthy thugs based on the Duke situation. At Duke, the captains and the upperclassmen let the team down by creating a situation with strippers and alcohol that ended up ruining their season and possibly some of their lives. Additionally, everything in the media is pointing to their innocence. I don't see how the fact that Georgetown lacrosse players are friends with duke lacrosse players is a black eye to the program. Their fighting is a black eye to the kids involved. We should probably start a thread for every Georgetown student who gets in a fight.

It was D'Agnes, but the charges will be dropped in exchange for community service. Finnerty may be prosecuted because the more serious allegations facing him in Durham violate the deal. www.thehoya.com/news/042506/news2.cfm
