The BE indoor track and field meet will be held at the University of Akron (?) this year. This meet is usually held at the Carrier Dome at Syracuse, so I am not sure why the change this year. The meet will take place this weekend. GU has some non-traditional (for GU) athletes, so they are going to be represented in most of the events. Maybe just HJ and PV for the men will not be represented.

Early results:
In the pentathlon Buky Bamigboye has the 8th fastest time in the 60H in 9.14 for 881 points. Next up for her is the HJ.
In the men's 60m Kenny Mitchell qualified for the finals with the 5th fastest time 6.85 (only 0.04s from the fastest). In the men's 60H Terrell Gissendanner was tied for the 4th fastest mark, 8.23 and qualified for the finals. So we will get points (assuming that both cross the finish line) in two events in which we usually don't score, and from two freshmen.

The women did well in the 500m prelims, getting all four runners to the next round. Nana Hanson-Hall won her heat in 1:13.93, Ashley Hubbard was second in her heat, but had a faster time than Nana, 1:13.87. Jayne Penn, 1:15.88, and Alex Baptiste, 1:16.28, also qualified.
The men got one of two in the next round in the 500m. Stanley Lagrenade qualified in 1:04.77 in 12th place (last qualifying place); Kevin Ward ran 1:07.19 and did not qualify. Neither of them ran in the royal heat with Sir Leslie Ford of Seton Hall.

In the men's 400m our only entry, Chris Bonner, finished 2nd in his heat at 2nd fastest overall and breaking the old facility record (if he hadn't been 2nd in his race) at 47.75.
In the women's 400m we had our two runners qualify, Kandance Ferguson at 56.47, who won her heat, and Nicole Torpey, 3rd in her heat, at 57.52.

Good news, bad news in the 1000m. For the women our two entries qualified for the next round. Maggie Infeld finsihed 2nd in her heat in 2:50.33, while freshman Avril Ogrodnick finished 3rd in her heat in 2:50.57. Our three entries in the men's 1000m did not qualify: Ricky Barrios finished 7th in his heat in 2:35.23, Rasheed Thompson finished 4th in his heat in 2:30.24, while Brandon Bonsey finished 5th in the same heat in 2:30.47.
Better news for the men as all three of our entries in the mile qualified. Chris Esselborn finished 2nd in the fast heat in 4:09.05, while also in this heat and qualifying was Shane Young in 4:15.71. In the slow heat finishing 3rd was Matt Debole in 4:19.84. Also in that heat and failing to finish was one of the favorites, Kurt Benninger of Notre Dame.
In Buky's 4th event she tied for 6th in the HJ with 5'2.25" worth 712 points. She has the 800m remaining.

Kenny Mitchell seems to be as good freshman sprinter as we've had in a while (at least to my faulty recollection.) It's good to have someone competive in the shorter races.

Yes, Kenny is as good as we have had. We had a top female sprinter several years ago, but she transfered.
