proxy.espn.go.com/ncb/columns/story?columnist=bilas_jay&id=1964546That's it - Jay Bilas has drunk the kool-aid. Let's review Syracuse's victories thus far and their RPI rankings as of January 9, 2005. Northern Colorado (232) Princeton (64) Memphis (109) Mississippi (30) Siena (281) Binghamton (163) Drexel (147) Cornell (296) Rice (37 - but that RPI number is going to drop because they play in the WAC) Albany (268) Hofstra (82) St. John's (117) Seton Hall (135 - but should go up) So that makes the average RPI of all of their victories, all of which occured within a 3 hour drive from Syracuse: 131. Which in case you are wondering is sort of like beating the College of Charleston 15 times. Wow, that's tough. Now if Jay Bilas will please remove his lips from Jim Boehiem's [edited], we can all go on with our lives.

Let's not get worked up about it until the Hoyas have a chance to test Syracuse's mettle.
Man, I would LOVE to pull at least a split out of these next two games.

Well, how come they always bash GTown for playing a soft nonconference schedule? I mean, cmon, why is it ok for Syracuse to?

the only reason he wrote the article is because so many have criticized Syracuse's schedule. The reality is that Syracuse has been good for years, so they'll have people saying they're really good no matter their schedule. When you're bad, like we have been lately, you can't get away with it.

Playing College of Charleston 15 times in a row could be a bit risky. Drew Hall will find a way to beat you eventually.

Did you just insinuate that Drew Hall can find a way to win a game ;D. The point here is that no team in the NCAA should get a pass for having a weak OOC schedule. Look at Gonzaga who is willing to travel anywhere to play a ranked team - is it fair to rank them below a team that has played a weak schedule completely within the state. Lets be honest if Georgetown had done this - even if MCI were considered a neutral court in some of the games and maybe played as far away as the Patriot Center Dicky V, Jay Bilas, little Dougie Gottlieb, and Mike-I-Barely-Talk-On-the-Set Jarvis would be jumping on us with every free breath they had.

You know how strange it is that ESPN criticize the Big East teams for its non-conference scheduling, especially Syracuse for not leaving New York city. Yet Duke has only played 1 away game all year. Funny how ESPN doesn't mention that about its beloved Duke.

Did anyone watch ESPN's College Gamenight show last night? They actually spent over 20 minutes on how incredible the ACC is. Even picked an ACC all guard's team, talked about their favorites at each position, etc. It was disgusting. And that is why Duke never gets criticized. If they weren't in the ACC they would never get this much coverage or this lack of criticism. Why can't ESPN just admit that it plays favorites?

Thank God I didn't see it. I might have punched my fist through the television tube.

Thank God I didn't see it. I might have punched my fist through the television tube. The best part, the_way, was that they picked a year in the past where the ACC was particularly stocked with point guard talent and did a little segment on it. That was okay, because the ACC is stocked with PGs now, and was then. And Jarvis correctly pointed out that these were all sophs and back then you had them as seniors. Then Rece Davis commented that they also had a few good frontcourt men and that "The ACC that year was just stacked!" Everyone gushed about how great the conference was that year. The year? 1984-85, I think. Are you fricking kidding me?!?!?!

I can't believe it. I seriously want to throw up it right now. Its just insane what ESPN is today. Yet one of the highest rated games ever on ESPN was St. Johns vs. Georgetown. Oh yeah, the year: 1984-85.

Can somebody please remind me what conference has BOTH teams in the final of the NCAA tournament that year ... I keep forgetting ... were Georgetown and Villanova in the ACC that year? I'm told that college basketball is going to move towards a system like the English Primier League - if you're team is really good then you can be in the ACC and if you win the NCAA then your team gets to be called "Duke". Or at least that's what an incredibly inebriated Dicky V told me last night at the Tombs.
