So I was browsing around Barnes and Nobles, looking at the basketball preseason issues, and there was the new Inside Lacrosse recruiting issue on the stands. Now, I didn't care quite enough to buy it, but I sort of skimmed through, looking for Georgetown mentions. Gleaned a few factoids:
1) Rich D'Andrea is going to be tried out as a defender/mid-fielder next year to give Miles Kass a shot at being goalie. D'Andrea is going to be a 5th year senior, and he has many starts under his belt, but he has been somewhat inconsitent, and occassionally downright bad. They say he has very good athleticism and skills, so it could work out great. Kass was the #2 recruit in the nation at ANY position, accoording to IL, so we need to get him on the field.
2) Dan D'Agnes, our highly touted midfielder from last year, has had a series of shoulder problems that kept him out of last season (apparently he did the more recent injury wakeboarding.) However, they say he's now healthy and will be ready for the spring. He was a top 10 national recruit last year.
3) Scott Kahoe (who I thought looked like a beast by late last year) is going to start and Urick said his potential is limitless. I think they said he'd be taking some faceoffs too. He, as well, was a top 10 player last year (man, that class was stacked!)
4) Our incoming class is rated 4th in the nation. Brendan Kelly from Maryland was rated as the 8th best recruit and (I believe) the top defender. Urick said he'll probably start off as a defensive middie, and eventually move close. I'm nearly certain that my knowledge of lacrosse has progressed to the point where I actually know what that last sentence means.
5) A bunch of other guys were "recruits to watch," including at least 4 or 5 kids from Landon. I know Landon is a lacrosse power, but that's pretty insane. As long as they're good, I suppose.
6) In the next class, we had a committment from some kid from Georgetown Prep, who's name is long and italian sounding and I forget it. IL said good things.
7) Why didn't Danny Gladding (#1 player in the nation) come to the hilltop? He was a little hoya - we should have gotten Roy Hibbert to give him a call, because I think they played together on the prep basketball team. Gladding was a guard with that group where the front court was all over 6'9''. Tough, tough job, that. He's going to UVa.
8) That's all I can recall. Pretty good, if I do say so myself. Hopefully this is the year we break through and make the finals. Or, at the very least, find a less heartbreaking way to lose in the tournament. Go Hoyas!
