In an effort to bring you the summer doings of Hoya track people, I present Zagreb:

What happened to Yelena, Nevada? Why? Is she a Hoya? Actually, Yelena was probably the rabbit. Most of the races in Europe that are not championship meets and are 800m and above usually have at least one rabbit. In a 5000 or 10000m race it is likely that you would have three or four rabbits. If Yelena was indeed the rabbit, she probably led the field through 600m, before stepping off the track.

Just wondering. Thanks for the explanation - I just thought that it was pretty hard to DQ ones self in races over 400M - or at the very least that it is a much rarer occurence than in the sprints.

Yes, if it were a DQ, then I would wonder, but DNF is a common occurrence in these rabbited races. However, people do get DQ'ed in the longer races for various reasons. They have officials around the track. If there are no infractions, they will raise a white flag, when the pack comes by. Cutting in without a full step on another runner will often get you DQ'ed. A fall will sometimes get somebody DQ'ed for causing the fall. Things like that.
