Wow. Under 3:35 in the 1500 is very impressive. Keep it up, Chris. Here´s to taking it to the next level.

Since I believe it was his first race in Europe this year, I believe, when he gets his body adjusted to the time, etc., he will be more competitive as the season grows on.

Well, Chris is still running in heady company and not yet competitive on the world stage, but he did set another PR today by half a second:

I know it is two years away, but what is the Olympic "A" standard time that a runner has to run to qualify for the Olympics? I believe it was 3:36.8 or something like that a few years ago, but it might have changed.
Obviously, as long as he keeps this up, this standard shouldn't be a problem for Chris. Great to see him hang with what must be a world-class field in Europe. Thanks for the updates, Nevada, I'll keep an eye out for him, the sky seems to be the limit.

The standard for the 2007 World Championships is 3:36.6 (so you were close, CA). That will probably be the Olympic standard. So, I think you have about a year to make the standard, so Chris should be ok for next year - just has to be in the top three at the trials (or not have three ahead of him at the trials with the standard). These races are great experience for Chris. Maybe he can get one or two more PRs during this season. I think he is using this season to prepare for the Championships next year. Incidentally, the list of performers for this year is, as follows (taken before yesterday's race, which would move Chris up, IMO; I am not sure what criteria they use to make this list, as Alan Webb in 8th place is running very poorly right now and has not had a good 1500/mile race this year):

Chris is really on the A list this summer - only American entered in the Rome Golden Gala race against yet another deep field. There are 18 people entered, so it is a bit crowded for a 1500m race (probably three of these people are rabbits).

Well, Chris is three for three in PRs this summer, as he broke 3:34 in Rome (about a 3:50.xx mile), but he keeps getting farther and farther down. His first race, he was 9th, then 10th, and now 12th, but with better times each race. Congratulations Chris!

Wow, these have been three phenomenal results for Chris. Kind of scary he still has so far to go to actually threaten to beat the top guys, but he should be very pleased with the progress he seems to be making under such stiff competition.
When do milers peak, typically? Chris is only 23 or so - he may get better yet.

When do milers peak, typically? Chris is only 23 or so - he may get better yet. Chris is actually 22, having turned that age in April. The world record holder in the mile and 1500m and Olympic champion in the 1500 and 5000, Hicham El Guerrouj, won the 2004 Olympics at age 30. He ran at the highest levels for at least 10 years. So, yes, if Chris keeps on improving at this level, he will have a wonderful career. Incidentally, I heard that the 1500m today went out in 51 s for the first 400m, and it was about 1:48 for the half. I think to be really competitive, Chris will have to run a few 800m at 1:45-1:46 speed. I think he has the ability to do that.

I'm kind of surprised we haven't seen Chris run a few open 800's--i think he could be very fast, maybe 1:44 range or better with a little bit of focus, I don't see any reason that he wouldn't be as fast as rich kenah who ran 1:43. I'd bet he'd be the 2nd fastest american at 800 now-his steady improvement at 1500 is very encouraging
--Al letsrun thread indicated that Lukezic's coach Juli Henner is coaching Kevin Sullivan of Canada as well--I wonder if they both still run sometimes with GU's track team

Yes, I saw that Juli was coaching Sully too, and he is having a good year. She must be doing something right. It would be interested in knowing, where they are training. I think Chris could get down to 1:44. I think Steve Holman did that when he was running (mostly 1500m). Chris would have to specialize in the 800m, if he want to go 1:43. That is fast. Maybe Chris has some 800m races planned at some of the smaller meets this summer.

Chris's recent string of PR's ended at the DN Galan games in Sweden. Seems like he reached his peak and the travel is taking a toll, but still 3:38 (about 3:55 mile pace) is not too bad. Interesting is that the winner of the race is the world record holder in the 5000 and 10000m races, dropping down for a rare race against the milers:

Looks like Chris is getting tired after spending all this time in Europe. This race is essentially part of season number two in Europe. I am surprised that Chris would still be there racing.
