There are two national track and field meets this week that have GU students or alumni participating. The first is the Junior Nationals. Among those running are Mike Banks and possibly Brandon Bonsey (entry is pending) in the 1500m, Daniel Nunn in the 5000m, and Ashley Hubbard (pending) in the 400m. In the senior meet Jesse O'Connell is entered in the 800m, Chris Lukezic in the 1500m, and Eric Savoth and Rod Koborsi in the 5000m. For the women Sasha Spencer is entered in the 800m, and Treniere Clement was entered in the 800m and 1500m, but she opted out of the 800m to concentrate on the 1500m.

Is M. Infeld running in the junior meet--would seem that she would have by far the best chance to make that team

also surprised to see koborsi entered in the 5k vs 10k-would seem he'd be much more competitive at 10k, especially given how well he did at the ncaa's

Maggie was not listed. Since the meet is in California, it may be too far for her to go. She has had a long season. Probably same reason why Bumbi is not running in any of these national meets - wanted a vacation.
Rod probably wants a good time for the 5000m. A top notch 10000m is pretty tiring. Since Rod was qualified for both, he opted for the shorter distance. I think Chris was qualified for both the 800m and 1500m, and he opted for the 1500m.
Incidentally, Rod has eligibility left, but not in XC.

you're probably right that the missing runners need a vacation-think that they both would have had a good chance to make the world junior team--a number of hoyas in the past have won world junior champs

Good news/bad news. The bad news is that Jesse O'Connell, whom I think had a chance to make the World Championship team in the 800, scratched from the meet. I hadn't seen his name in any of the results leading up to this meet, so that I thought he might be injured. It seems that is the case.
The good news is that GU recent grad Kalpanatit Broderick is entered in the 1500m. I am surprised that Tommy Manning is not entered, as, I believe, he had a qualifying time in the 1500m.

Rod Koborsi and Eric Savoth are in what is the "easy" heat of the 5000m tonight. This is good and bad news, probably mostly bad. The good news is that both might be expected to place high in their heat. Bad news because this is a final and that means the placing in the meet will be based on time. The second heat will invariably run faster. If Rod and Eric want a fast time, they will have to do most of the work themselves. If it were just a heat, they would be in good positions.

In another great development for GU track, Chris Lukezic finished 2nd (to Alan Webb) by 0.09 s in the final of the 1500m at the USA Track and Field meet. Chris still has to get a qualifying time to secure a place on the World Championship team this summer. In a similar situation to last year, when Chris did not qualify for the NCAA 1500m finals, but yet finished 4th at the Nationals (and Olympic Trials), Chris followed up his 6th place finish at the NCAAs (where he was leading with 200m to go) with today's 2nd place finish.

The A standards for the World Champs in the 1500m are 3:36.2 for the men and 4:05.8 for the women. Neither Chris nor Treniere have the A standard, although Treniere is less than a second from it. Chris is about 2.5 seconds from it based on his PR. It seems as if the only chance for Chris to get the mark is to go to Europe and get invited into some of the meets over there.
