The NCAAs will be held in Sacramento June 8-11. Georgetown will be represented by three runners. Maggie Infeld will run the 1500m, Chris Lukezic will also run the 1500m, and Rod Koborsi has opted to run the 10000m, instead of the 5000m (or both, since he was qualified for both events).

The big day will be Thursday, June 9, as all the Hoyas will be competing on that day. Chris and Maggie will run in the heats of the 1500m, while Rod will run the finals of the 10,000m that day. Wish I were there! (Actually, I will be in Virginia for a few days, so I won't be able to get timely reports here )

Here I am in humid Charlottesville (oh, for the heat and DRYNESS of Las Vegas). Rod Koborsi ran a great race in the 10000m and he finished 4th overall all between two Kenyans and the American Junior Record holder Galen Rupp. His time was 28:42.05, great time for a national meet. His five points put Georgetown into 10th place overall. Robert Cheseret of Arizona won, Rupp finished 2nd, and Kosgei finished third.
Maggie and Chris qualified for today's final in the 1500m. Maggie qualified on time as she finished 6th in her fast heat in 4:16.26, which is a personal record for her (I believe this is a PR by about six seconds). Chris ran in the slow (first) heat and won in 3:46.64. The other heat went in 3:39, so maybe they spent themselves. Chris has therefore positioned himself for a good finish.

Back in hot but DRY Las Vegas. The results of the 1500m. Maggie Infeld finished 11th (of 12) in the finals in 4:21.97. Establishing a personal best by six seconds in the heats apparently took a lot out of Maggie. She is only a frosh, so she did great to get to the finals, and she will be a force in future years.
The men's final in the 1500m was very hot. The freshman Leonel Manzano won in a very fast time (for a championship event) in 3:37.13. Chris Lukezic set a personal best by 1.32 seconds, but came in 6th as he was 0.27 s from 2nd. Runners 2-8 were within 0.6 seconds. Two guys Chris beat in the Regionals, Sean Duffy of American and Shane Stroup of Florida were 3rd and 5th, respectively, in 3:38.46 and 3:38.57. I thought Chris would win this, because he won his heat in a slower time, and I thought the guys in the other heat would be spent. But everybody was in great shape.

Report of the men's 1500m:
Lukezic went way to early. He tried to break the field on the 3rd lap at the top of the first turn and they eventually worked together and swollowed him on the last turn of the race at about 1350 or so. If Lukezic sat and kicked he would have been tough to beat. Manzano came from way back and closed in like :55 seconds for the last quarter off a already under 4 minute pace. Great race but Luckezic didnt run wisely.
This is similar to what Alan Webb did at the Olympic Trials last year, when he took off with about 600m to go and put a lot of daylight between the field and himself. Since Chris sometimes trains with Alan, he may have tried the same tactic.
