Since I have been away, I see that GU sports is cluttered with all sorts of other "minor" sports, so I should give everyone an update on the NCAA regional meet in NYC. Full details can be seen on guhoyas.collegesports.com/sports/m-track/recaps/052805aaa.htmlThe highlights were the wins by Chris Lukezic in the 1500m and Rod Koborsi in the 5000m. Chris was 4th in qualifying, running his heat in 3:44.58 and won the final in 3:49.03 (obviously a tactical race). Rod won the 5000m in 13:51.27 and is qualified for both the 5000m and 10000m for the NCAAs in Sacramento (June 8-11). Tommy Manning was 6th in qualifying in 3:50.13 and was primed for a good final, but was 11th in 3:53.08 (I wonder if he fell, because the leading qualifier, Ryan Hayden of Villanova did not finish and they may have gotten tangled up. Tommy was obviously in much better shape than the final time and position indicates.) Maggie Infeld was 5th in qualifying in 4:26.24, and Ms. Consistency ran 4:26.19 to place 4th in the final. As the top five are guaranteed a spot at the NCAAs, Maggie qualifies as a freshman. Georgetown men finished 9th with 20 points, and the women finished 27th with 5 points.

Tommy Manning was a victim of circumstances in the 1500m. In the qualifiers, which went out slowly, he had to run a 41 second last 300m to qualify. That took a lot out of him for the final the next day. In the final Ryan Hayden of Villanova, one of the favorites, fell right in front of him, so Tommy lost a lot of momentum on the run in.
