How messed up is the Wilson Bridge area now?
I'm driving a rental moving truck up later this week and wondered whether I should get onto US 1 or 301 somewhere in VA and miss the Beltway completely.
Any advice welcome.

Last weekend was the big slowdown over there. Things are more or less back to normal on the Wilson Bridge & all lanes are open. There will be another shutdown weekend in July, but this weekend should be pretty normal.
Which is not to say it won't be slow, just no worse than anywhere else on the Beltway. Try 1620 AM in your truck on the way up.

I'd avoid it if I were you.

PM Nyr320 - the kid is obsessed with traffic patterns in DC - he'll help you out.

Left SC around 9 Thursday night and made it to Chester VA around 4 am Friday. Left around 11 after Breakfast but since I waited and left Thursday night I had to do 95/Wilson Bridge the whole way because my fiancee works in Columbia, MD and I had to get the condo key.
The only bad traffic was in and around the last Alexandria exit because of the merging coming in near the bridge. The bridge itself and the rest of the beltway was moving great. It just looked very weird to see all those stores now in Landover where I went to basketball games when I was at GU.
The only major problem I hit was closer to Baltimore because it was 3ish by the time we got back moving after stopping to get the key and eat lunch. 895 is my favorite route to avoid problems on 95 even though the Harbor Tunnel has a slight backup because it has less tubes.
