Let me preface by saying I think "Deadwood" is the best HBO show ever (with "The Wire" shortly behind).
That said, WOW. Best. Episode. Ever? A few points:
1) Al and Bullock continuing to join forces (albeit reluctantly) to combat Hearst's encroachment. This is going to pay off in droves for fans of the show as Hearst works to ensure the camp goes to Dakota, and the two of them conspire to ensure their interests are looked after over Hearst's.
2) Alma Garrett - alive or dead? Ellsworth aside, her continued ill health may cause a bit more strain with regards to her previous involvement with Bullock. And the fact Hearst now knows (who from, we're not sure... at least after E.B. claimed he didn't tell Hearst), could lead to some interesting conflicts (i.e. Hearst wants her gold, may leverage her or her claim against Bullock to get what he wants).
3) How is Trixie going to react to being forcefully separated from Star via Al? Is she gonna follow orders? Tell Al to f-off and live with Star (you have to imagine he's going to tell her to move in with him into Adams' old house)?
4) How are the elections going to pan out? Any upsets? You have to think Star is going to trounce Farnum. Any other effects on the day-to-day or long-term prospects of the camp?
5) How much more is Calamity Jane gonna drink? I got the over-under on 1,000 bottles by season's end.
6) How are things going to play out between Cy and Stubbs? Is she going to come back and work at the Bella Union? How is he going to get back into Hearst's good graces now that Hearst's "chinaman" is dead and the Chinese prostitutes are all dead?
7) How much longer is Richardson going to hold those antlers Garrett gave him early last season towards the moosehead on the wall in E.B.'s (well, now Hearst's) hotel?
I just freakin' love this show. I love parts of Entourage (anything with Drama, Turtle or Ari... the rest suck), but for me it doesn't get any better than Swearengen letting loose one of his Shakespearean soliloquies at the Indian-head-in-a-box. The dialogue, the stories... the best.
